I think most companies will only return to factory spec. Classic line would be worth a shot, but they were quite a bit more expensive this year for me, but did use for a couple of years.VRSteve wrote:Are the cars old enough to qualify for that?Buckz wrote:You could try insuring the car on agreed value rather than like for like replacement on the mods?

You may get a better response from those in the know if this was in the "Insurance" section perhaps ?.
Can a Mod move it over ?

Could try MSM insurance. They insure performance cars and kit cars.

I use A-Plan Thatcham.
Wheels and suspension are declared but I'd hardly class is as a modified car.

Weirdly, my wheels were insured as "original equipment", along with the carbon spoiler and strut brace. Doesn't matter that they were after-sale, apparently, neither does it matter that the alloys were never an option, which I asked about explicitly, just that they were from BMW (might try and get this in writing, because I'm still doubtful it's true!). Then the KWs and Eventuri are just declared, and affect my premium, but not covered in the event of a claim.LostBoy_84 wrote:I use A-Plan Thatcham.

2008 Z4MC: heavy wheels | crap suspension | skittish rear end | wobbly engine | not enough induction noise | underwhelming turn in | inconsistent braking | lardy battery | chubby steering wheel

I've been with Adrian Flux for years - they are cheaper than many companies and, most importantly, will replace like-for-like with new parts (my Zed is extensively modified). They also cover superchargers which many / most companies will not.
Z4MC - heavily fettled for track use
Lotus Exige - sensible daily driver on the mods slippery slope
Westfield SEiW - in hibernation
Modified RS4 Avant - back in Blighty
S2000 GT - gone

That's interesting, I'll have to question it come renewal time.MrPT wrote:Weirdly, my wheels were insured as "original equipment", along with the carbon spoiler and strut brace. I did this and got a call back from a super gent in Tooting - long conversation about my living around the corner until last year and now live basically down the road from his house! Thumbs up on the service, but the price was... wait for it... three times that of Flux!!Mister T wrote:Try A-Plan in Thatcham

I know this is an "M" specific thread, but please bear with me.
I had a 3 litre E86 for two years and stupidly agreed to sell it - realised the error of my decision so went and bought another. The seller told me it had a stainless centre and rear section of exhaust, and if definitely sounded different in a good way!
The first Z4 was insured by Allianz via A-Plan, but when I told them about the stainless exhaust (of indeterminate manufacture) on my 2nd car they wouldn't quote!
So I went to Chris Knott, told them and got a good quote noting a stainless exhaust! Then I mentioned this on the forum and someone on here said they all had a stainless exhaust as standard, so the only mod to my car was actually a pattern part instead of OEM!
So my point is I doubt there are many (or even any?) brokers/insurers who know exactly what is standard and what is a modification, which makes me wonder if any of them actually employs an engineer who would be able to identify a non-standard part unless it jumped out and bit him!
And while I realise none of us wants to give them an excuse to try to duck out of their responsibilities, it does seem pretty difficult to find anyone knowledgeable enough to understand what they are actually being asked to insure!
Anyway I hope you find someone suitable OP. (Just a thought, but would Lancaster Insurance be any good?)

You possibly want to try A plan, Carole Nash, Keith Michaels as specialised performance brokers. I would steer clear of Adrian Flux if possible. Cheap prices but no help in the event of a claim.

Others are Lancaster Insurance, Greenlight and Sky. I would write a list of potential modified specialists and play them all off against each other over a very long day on the phone.
