Your lucky enough to have had the engine out to Polish the pants off parts I simply can't reach hahaha

What is the general concensus on the best products to use to clean dirty and soiled matal parts such as the oil filter housing, vanos cover and so on... ?

Well the cap I had done by a polisher
And spare up for grabs
Rest I use autosol and elbow grease
