S54 Engine Assembly [video]

Post by jimmybell » Tue Jan 24, 2017 5:14 pm

Pretty sure i've seen this before, can't remember where - perhaps some on here would find it interesting :)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhC405AxyTo

Does anyone have much S54 experience first hand?

Video seems to lack a few bits of detail i'd b interested in - how do they get the rod bearings in place, i see the guy blows on one of them, but only what looks like one half - of a bearing shell pair, how is the other half inserted? Doesnt appear to be in the piston rod when it's added.

Diagram here:

This 'alternate facts' video (see what i did there, topical) doesnt seem to answer it either: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9meu4HeRS1I

Also - Is he oiling the valves on that pad before inserting them?

Anyone with any interest in what's done as part of your Inspection services with regards to valve shimming - see 06:40s :)

A good video, as you mentioned I've seen it posted before. My clearance check took me considerably longer than that though! :D

interesting video. I love all things cars, especially anything Z4 related but I bet working on the same post day in day out gets a bit mundane over time! Unless they rotated different tasks within the engine build I know I would.

Would be great if someone on here recognised the code and owned that block.

Cheers for sharing :D

Thanks Jimmy, I enjoyed that
There was another video posted ages ago showing the N52 3 litre engine being assembled (in Germany IIRC) and the Z4 body being assembled (in the USA IIRC) and then the two being paired and the car rolling off the production line. Can't find it on youtube - do you (or anyone else) have a link to that one?
