Z4MC CSL Tyres

Post by Das882 » Sat Feb 04, 2017 10:24 am

I collected my new set of CSL reps and tyres last night from my local tyre depot. The rims are 8.5" and 9.5" and fitted with 235 x 35 x19" and 265 x 30 x 19" tyres my concern is that there is no rim protection as the rims are flush with the tyres. I called the garage this morning and they said that they could fit a wider tyre as apparently some of the M3 guys do. My other concern is that will I have rubbing issues, the car is at standard ride height, but will probably lower in the future.

Tyre choice has a big say on rim protection
I just had some Michelins PS fitted to a spare set of CSL reps with 8.5 fronts & 9.5 wide .
Went for 255 35 19 as i prefer more rubber especially on the rears & more than happy with the rim protection

255s are the rears , 235 35 fronts , car is lowered on Eibachs & although not yet fitted the black set i don't envisage any rubbing issues with same offsets as the OEM CSLs that are currently fitted with 265 30 rubber (as pic )

Yes as Mr Wilks says the fitment is very much tyre brand dependent.
My car had 235/35/19 265/30/19 Falken 453's when I bought it, they looked quite stretched particularly on the rears. Fitted MPSS last year and they look much better and with a bit more rim protection too.

I've had Altenzo's fitted on the recommendation of the fitter, he and his son both have M3's and they say they cannot fault them. As you can see from the photo the shoulders are quite rounded and to me looks like there would be room to go with a wider tyre?
I should of stated that the offsets are 38front and 27 rear.

I've also had new tyres fitted to my reps today and they sit flush with the wheel edge but no protection at all.

Mine are the same sizes as yours although yours look like they are protruding more than mine. Could be the angle and light though .

This is the rear wheel. Sooooo, can I go up a size wider without rubbing or will I have to go with a different make of tyre bearing in mind that I might lower the car at a later date???

You're putting budget tyres on your M in winter? :o Brave.
I hope you can drive the car like in that video in my other post!

Summer use only......according to the supplier these tyres are budget in price only, he is a long time friend and probably turns over more wheels and tyres than anyone in Scotland, as he said he would not recommend them if he did not think they were up to scratch.

Fair enough. Thing is for the small extra outlay tyres like the Supersports last a lot longer than cheaper rubber in my experience. The initial extra cost is negated to some degree, and personally I couldn't stand and look at it knowing the rubber isn't really befitting of such a car. That's just my opinion of course, but in the rain aren't these kind of tyres proven to be less effective in stopping distances etc. compared to 'premium' tyres? Quite important given our weather generally. I stand to be corrected though, I have no experience of these tyres.
