Just called my dealer for a service price...

Post by petrolhead88 » Sat Feb 11, 2017 11:44 am

The car currently reads 3000 miles to an Oil Service, so I thought I'd get it done early as I'm selling the car.

Anyway, the lady at the dealer said the smallest service is an Inspection 1 and they charge £619 which includes an Oil and Pollen Filter change and that's it. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry!

Think I'll be going to an Indy.

There's a lot to be said about doing your own serviceable items - especially if trying to avoid having ur pants pulled down by dealers!

Ha, dealers are annoying as they get, at times its just irritating they get away with such a lack of knowledge about what their suppose to know more then anyone else in the industry hence the high prices people pay.

Indy all the way, also will not impact on resale price at all. Any buyer of these cars now know what their buying and will likely have done research, on this forum probably.

Saying that she got it wrong, that's all, dealers do do an oil service for our cars around 250.

I would have laughed and then vowed never to contact that dealer again.

You should get change form £250 and, as others have said, it's so tricky to do it yourself (says the guy whose technical proficiency extends to removing, and re-fitting, dust caps! :P ).

That's an incorrect price: google main dealer Insp 1 prices and you'll get MUCH cheaper than that.

These cars tend not to do too many miles so 3000 miles away from a service could be a year to someone, why not just price it accordingly when selling?

I bet at that £619 Inspection 1 they will no longer do the valve clearances. Otherwise the price would be over £800.

Don't forget that the difference between Insp1 & Insp2 is relatively minor (spark plugs & gearbox/diff oils) and should cost 'only' about £300 more at a dealer. So that one showing £600 more means they're not doing the valve clearances on the Insp1

My local main dealer is doing my oil service next month.

£87 with me supplying the oil. So about £150 all in.

Brake fluid change slow booked £65 from memory.

Truly laughable, firstly they tell you "BMW value service" then it goes on to state that at £1272 its "cost competitive". Compared to what?

Crazy thing is the oil service at £199 is the same for a non ///M

Ask to supply your own oil and it becomes more expensive as it uses less oil. :?

Why? well the dealer removed the cost of the oil from the price. So a N52 uses 6.5 litres where as the ///M only uses 5.5 litres. End result £85 for N52 or £115 for ///M.

I managed to get them to see sense at he got it to £87.
