M Service History advice
Considering a few Z4Ms to purchase and they all sent to have gaps in their histories. Main issue seems to be servicing based on mileage rather than time..... at times meaning long time gaps with no services yet maybe not. A lot of mileage being done.
Wondered what the view on this are please?

Seems to affect the low mileage cars most - like the £30k example posted the other day.
Maybe something to be said for buying an 80k miler but correctly serviced.

This kind of thing is pretty much standard - here in Australia you simply won't find one that doesn't have any such time-based gaps.
You'll get very mixed opinions about it on here but it the time based gaps didn't deter me. While not ideal, so long as it was serviced by a reputable dealer each time (here in Australia BMW dealers seem to have much better ethics in their service departments than the horror stories we hear in the UK) and they are using the correct TWS fully synthetic oil it shouldn't have been enough to cause major problems. I'd only be a little wary if it was being tracked on old oil, but the majority of the time you'll find that people who are tracking a car like this will make sure that it's serviced properly.

Due an inspection 2 at about 50k. Other than that a few months too many between some of the servicing.derin100 wrote:Ok, rather than start a new thread as this one is similar to the question I was going to ask anyway...

Mine is similar. Only done 40k miles since 2006, so the services are spread quite a way apart. If the servicing is based on miles and use, then I don't see the problem.

Mine is low mileage, always serviced on time. They should still be serviced every 2 years.
Anything else and it's a partial service history only.

For some reason I thought M cars had to have even an interim service (Oil service) every year, no?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Some people advocate an interim annual oil change as good practice to help preserve the s54 in tip top condition. I'm not sure if it helps you can't over-service your car!derin100 wrote:For some reason I thought M cars had to have even an interim service (Oil service) every year, no?

Just out of curiously . I thought intervals were also down to how the cars are driven rather than just mileage or time. So if you drive about at 7900 rpm all day long for say 1000 miles car will tell you it needs an oil service sooner than your neighbour who has done 1000 miles at 2500rpm.
Or have I got that wrong?

Not necessarily, unless the Ins notification came on, it was due an oil and bf, just over 2yrs since the last one, 08/03/12, mines on 44K and not due ins2 for another 4K milesMuckinonthesofa wrote:derin100 wrote:Ok, rather than start a new thread as this one is similar to the question I was going to ask anyway...

I thought that the car's brain decided the intervals depending on how the car's been driven but followed the oil, inspection 1, oil, inspection 2 schedule?Darren Slone wrote:Not necessarily, unless the Ins notification came on, it was due an oil and bf, just over 2yrs since the last one, 08/03/12, mines on 44K and not due ins2 for another 4K milesMuckinonthesofa wrote:derin100 wrote:Ok, rather than start a new thread as this one is similar to the question I was going to ask anyway...

They are based on the time and mileage taken to burn through 500 gallons of fuel, so how it is driven will affect how quickly the services come around.Dablk wrote:Just out of curiously .
