Brake fluid quantity ??

Post by D4dawg » Sun Feb 26, 2017 1:31 pm

Afternoon all

Preparing for new big brake conversion ;)
Brembo 6 pot front 4 pot rears
Ds2500 pads new braided lines, brackets and new discs

So, as I'm prepare mode, ordering Castrol srf dot 4 fluid
Question....
2 litres be enough for fluid change??

Plus a heads up to all, once all on, I'll be selling all my M calipers/ lines/ ds2500 pads 2k of use/ all Csl discs 2/3mm off front 1 off rear/ and 135i 2 pot brembo rear calipers ;)

Clear time

A litre is normally more than ample to do a full fluid change on a Zed. I do it with a 750cc bottle. If you want to be certain of not having to dash to the shops if you have problems, then get the second litre bottle and keep it sealed and will be fine for the next fluid change

Calipers all painted in black enamel gloss and v good condition as car low low miles and we all know my cleaning issues haha
Discs 30k use not tracked etc can only just see a lip
Ds2500 pads cost me £300 2k miles ago and nearly as new
135i rear calipers v good condition do fit directly onto rear lugs but pads would need either left or 5mm taken off top to fit rear 328 disc or someone may want to retro fit to front or guido I think fitted to rear of his
Inbox me for any info folks

Ps calipers and discs I want to sell as a set
As pads fit to these discs as that's what bedded in on

Trying to work out exactly what you are saying but looking at the picture of the rear caliper, the pad is sitting outside the disc by 5mm?

Yes buddy
Perfect fit on rear lugs
Just pads sit outside disc by 5mm
As rear discs are 328 v 345 of 135i rears

But I've now got 4 pot brembos coming for rear:)

So they are up for grabs instantly and rest once get calipers back from custom respray job

If you fit pads like that its sensible to take the overhanging part of the pad off, if that's not done later in life the pads could meet and you have no brakes.

Those rear calipers defiantly don't fit properly!

Id take them off OP and sell them on,

I wouldn't want to use those brakes as they currently stand, they could be very dangerous indeed and would definably invalidate any insurance/fail an MOT!

That's somewaht dangerous and will lead to all sorts of off balance and possible fail scenarios as the pads wear and don't sit square and centred on the disks. Retrofit's sometimes good but not like that

1: these 135i rear calipers ARE NOT GOING ON MY CAR and up for sale
2: guido or similar name has fitted these to the rear of his 3.0 his post in e85/86 area so could be worth a read

3: They do fit lugs on rear perfectly and rear lugs could be slotted to move them in the 17mm difference between 328 csl disc v 345 they are designed to fit or pads machined to remove 5mm off excess hence doesn't catch edge of disc
Or fit a 345 disc and fit perfectly

4: I have bought brembo 4pots to fit my rear
