Has anyone changed theirs? Now I know it's supposed to be a 'for life' item, but I'm not convinced about BMW's definition of 'for life'
It's supposed to be self cleaning I think, but if there's crap in the tank, there's crap in the tank right? Car's on 73k.
I also know it's a pain to get to but can be done without removing the fuel tanks. Since the exhaust is being dropped next week I thought I might get it done. Any opinions?

It is strange that the e46 M3 has a fuel filter change as part of an inspection, but we don't.
Just for peace of mind, I don't let the car get below 1/4 tank

Quite! Different filter design apparently, but I still can't get my head around it.
Filter and pump are at the bottom of the tank as far as I can work out, so that ain't gonna help you
