No, its the exact opposite-you have an untidy, ragged driving style that's destroying your car
Rob
As above
Smooth driving style and more mechanical sympathy goes along way on a car, and it's parts

Pm me to sort sending it and coving costs.
My little blue zed is in lots of bits. With lots of things started and not many finished! I may have found the limits of my time and ability!!

Looks like simple torsional material fatigue to me, possibly as a result of weakness in the fabrication of the tube.

I wouldn't worry, these cars aren't young, just replace it.

Other than having bolts instead of nuts, are these later ones maybe thinner material?
Or have they the exact same part nr?

I'm not trying to hijack this thread but the exact same thing has just happened to my car. 07 plate with 63k on the clock. Strangest thing ever is that in happened on a perfectly normal straight flat road with no bumps or anything. Went from no noise to a horrible knocking noise, I thought one of the bonnet catches had given up and it was the bonnet bouncing up and down. I've owned the car for 2 years and it's never had an accident in that time, obviously don't know what happened to it before but it's been perfect for 2 years. I have no idea how it's broken with such a clean cut, it's exactly the same as the OP and by the looks of it in an identical place. Oh well, I'll give BMW a call and see if it's covered under the warranty?

If they claim it's a trim part then you can tell them where to shove it

It's structural, so there should be no issues what so ever with a BMW warranty.
