Think Ive ruined my calipers UPDATED

Post by Pastry » Sat May 20, 2017 5:40 pm

Ive spent the last day or so cleaning my calipers and painting them red which I thought would go well with the dark blue body, that is until I refitted the first side :o Im really not sure I like them!!!
What do you guys and girls think?

Im tempted to go back to black or anthracite or maybe I just need to get used to such a dramatic colour change, any other suggestions? (No to green and yellow so lets no go there :P )

Epic fail in my book mr P  they aren't the most fetching calipers to start with so i'm not a fan of drawing attention to them no matter the colour or standard of job :(

I think it looks good, but I went blue with black clips when I did mine last week. I think I prefer mine :P

On the standard callipers, then a silver/grey/black are the only options IMO (you actually don't want to draw any attention to them)....I think the red look bloody awful, sorry :(

Theres nothing wrong with the quality of work I can assure you of that! Those calipers are a darker red which I prefer however, the caliper itself is much better looking which is half my problem, trying to make a purse out of a sow's ear..

Try a silver or black clip to remove some of the redness, might dull them down a little :?

You have done all the hard work, just repaint them a different colour before they get too dirty and you have to start all over again.

I was going to paint mine red. I'm gonna do them in black now I think. They look really bright on the pictures, do they look quite bright in natural light too?

They'd look better with silver clips. Still... not for me either, sorry. Silver or black for the stock calipers.

I'm with Mr Wilks on this, even on an M like yours they aren't the sexist things ever. Never quite sure why BMW never put 4 or 6 pots on the M of this vintage. Nuts when you consider you can get nice 4 pots on a F20 1 series diesel since they came out and the previous gen 1 series 135i had 6 pots available around the time the Z4M was in production. I would just give a recoat in silver or grey, maybe even black. All three would look better than the rusty look and at least all your efforts wouldn't have been in vain!

Oh FFS , you come around here asking me to turn that sows ear into a silk purse and then go and reverse all the turd polishing I did. ! :headbang: :D I know your jealous of my Imola Red M but honestly mate painting it one piece at a time isn't going to help ! :poke:

Seriously though , just doesn't look right, as Rob said, the clip at least needs to be a different colour, but somehow the red just looks like a cheap nail varnish on such a classy car, darker red maybe would work , but for me black is the way to go with silver clips.

Totally agree with the thoughts that the calipers aren't a "show" item. On the Zed M the show are the discs which look great

I painted mine black and did the spring clips in silver because of this.

I do like red calipers on both a dark and light car and had red brembos on my old Alfa which looked great.

The BMW performance brakes are better but even then still not the most asthetic.
