Wind deflector
I don't have a wind deflector on my recently purchased Z4MR and had two questions:
1. Are they any good for cutting down the "back draft" on the back of your neck?
2. Any advice on what kind to buy, genuine BMW or aftermarket?
Any other assistance most welcome!
Cheers

They do work, remarkably well!
You'll need the smaller pieces for inside the hoops if the car doesn't already have them - The BMW one is the best looking, and probably works better than cheaper ones, due to the fact that it "slows down" the air flowing rearward due to it's mesh construction. They go for £120-£150 when posted for sale on here. Try to get the "full kit" which comes with an extra set of mounts to store it on the underside of the boot lid, preventing theft if the car is left with the roof down.

Thanks.
So do I need to change the hoops as well or will the deflector just clip on to the existing hoops?
I take it that it's the same one for M and non M cars?

You'll need to drill holes to fit the clips to the hoops, I "believe" the drilling positions are indicated on the INSIDE of the hoops, so if you want 100% OEM accuracy, you'll need to split them.

Yes, the OEM wind deflector certainly makes a difference, well worth it.finlay wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2017 2:37 pm I don't have a wind deflector on my recently purchased Z4MR and had two questions:

Aye, an average of 7 posts a year is pretty impressive I suppose.
Having owned 4 different M cars before the MR was always on my purchase list, just never seemed to quite get round to doing it till now!

So I have seen a genuine one for sale on eBay which has just got the centre section not the small pads that go in the hoops. Comes with all the fixings but it appears I will have to drill the hoops to bolt the sliders in place on either side?
Wondered if there are captive nuts behind the hoops already or what do the bolts attach to if not? Also how hard are the hoops to remove without breaking them?

I bought the OEM BMW leather and mesh one that just slides over the hoops as I didn't want to go drilling and risk breaking the hoop covers installing the plastic one.
It worked extremely well. I recently sold it on here for £75.

Thanks for that, Sounds like a good shout - did you buy it new/any ideas where to purchase at a sensible price?
