Z4MR rear springs

Post by Cb3749 » Tue Jul 04, 2017 2:53 pm

Hi Everyone,

Some advice please. Just broken a rear spring at 42k miles.
What are the advantages/disadvantage of OEM replacement springs v Bilstein b12 kit v Eibach Pro-Kit (E10-20-010-04-22) - BMW Z4 (E85) M 3.2?
Whilst stripped down should I look at replacing anything else eg top mounts etc.

Many thanks for your help.

Advantages, having gone through the same but replaced with OEM (now regretting it) are the Eibach springs will actually last. I've been told the Pro versions are slightly firmer than stock, plus lower the car a smidge so will compound the failure rate of the OEM dampers.

My advice? Bite the bullet and fork out the £650 for new springs and dampers, don't bother with OEM replacement.

Regarding the rest of the car, rear top mounts can degrade (I've just had mine replaced at 62k miles) and Rear Trailing Arm Bushes (RTABs) are also worth a check. Front top mounts, wishbones, lollipops are all worth checking naturally.

As above, but even if you just do the eibach springs you'll notice the difference.

What did you go with, Angelus666? Just springs or shocks too?

Just springs, lowers the height sensibly and provides a more planted feel and ride. Pretty much everyone who's had an e46 m3 or z4m would have made this change at some point. It's quite amazing how poor the oem springs are when you can get aftermarket that'll outlast the car for £200.

Factor about £350 with fitting.

Hi Everyone,
Bilstein B12 suspension kit is being fitted on Thursday and will need to have the geometry set up afterwards.
Do I set it up as a standard ///M roadster or as a CSL as some suggest?
What are the differences and advantages/disadvantages between the set ups?
Car will be on 18" wheels with Continental Sport Contact M3's - 225/45ZR18 front and 255/40ZR18 rear.
Car is only used on roads not tracked.
Any help/suggestions from those who know please.

Many thanks
Charlie B :)

I'm interested in this as mine are going on this week as well.

Did you stick with the standard geometry? Did you replace the front and rear top mounts or any other components?

Also, are you pleased with the kit? to

Top mounts were fine only needed to replace rear covers.. Very pleased, playing with tyre pressures at the moment.
