Hi. Prob a repost but I'm not that good at the search button! My car is garaged and only doing 1500 miles a yr tops.

Are inspection services time specific also or just mileage specific. Pretty sure that oil service required whatever but not sure on inspection ones. Car has full dealer history so far.

And yes I should probably read the manual but I work like a dog and drive the car for an hour every other weekend. Not going to eat into that by reading the manual!

Oil service every two years as a minimum.

Inspections are done on mileage, but doing 1.5k per year would mean an inspection service every 12-15 years which is pushing it some what.

I'm doing 2k per year and will have 2-3 oil services between inspections, meaning inspection services every 6-8 years. I will be doing inspection 2's all the time though as the only difference between this and inspection one is plugs.

I get the oil and filter done every year. Same with every car I've ever had, irrespective of miles per year or vehicle mileage.

If I went to look at a car and thought it was running around with 3 year old oil in it, I would (and have) walk away.

Just for clarity, oil will be changed every year, more if mileage ever goes up. I'm talking about servicing from a bmw dealer.

I have a Z4MC which I do low miles in and this is sometimes 1500 miles a year. My car has a full main dealer BMW service history and I wondered about changing oil annually with such a low mileage.

In the Z4MC service booklet, it states a special note on oil changes in respect of SII (Service Interval Indicator) cars, which the Z4MC is. It states that if you drive very low annual distances, you should have the oil changed every two years at latest.

I contacted BMW UK and also spoke with 3 BMW dealer service departments and their view was that an annual oil change at 1st year since last change for 1500 miles was unnecessary, but that you could change at 2 years regardless, even if you have only covered another 1500 miles.

With 10W/60 top quality synthetic oil, it isn't necessary to change at 1500 miles after only one year, but change at 2 years would for sure be recommended.

Nick.

I had my oil analysed when it was changed back in March. It was 2 years old with 6K on it. Tests came back all fine. That for me is evidence enough that changing every 2 years is sufficient with such low mileage.

i am one of the silly few that services every 2 years regardless of miles.... including the valve checks.... I've owned the car for nearly a decade now and I'm more than happy going OTT with it, i also plan to keep the car for as long as their is life in my body. every November since a clearance issue i take off the V/C and record my own clearances which allows to me correlate back to what the indie suggest may or may no need doing.... or if theirs any issues with my highly tuned car.
