Z4M vs M2
I am starting to get the itch for a change, this has been influenced as Wifes now has a new car.
Really like the to keep within the Z, as love the open top driving - however, I also like the M2. I think the new G29 Z4 will be available late 2018 - so looking for a replacement car.
As I understand the Z4m is a true M car - very driver involved - has anyone who has/had a Z4M moved experienced the M2 as a comparison?

You can imagine the answers. If you can have both do it. And an M2 for a daily must be great. I would have one for a daily.Twin Turbo wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2017 10:42 am I am starting to get the itch for a change, this has been influenced as Wifes now has a new car.

And I would always keep the Z4M in fact I would later sell the M2 and get something else for daily still keeping the Z4M.. and do that cycle as the dailys are lovely but replaceable.

I'd be very surprised if the M2 doesn't come in convertible form at some point in the near future....

Z4M vs M2
I don't think I've ever been more disappointed in a car than the M2. I've owned E46 M3, E92 M3, 120d and now the Z4m.
No offence to anyone that has one, but it just doesn't feel like an M car. It just feels like a 1 series with a parts bin twin turbo petrol engine. I thought the steering feel for an M car was truly horrendous. The noise - always synonymous for an M car is totally missing (admittedly that could be addressed with an MPE).
I was so excited about the test drive, but it has given me a massive new appreciation for the Z4m. I had always regarded the contrite 'last of the 6 cylinders' 'last M with a hydraulic rack' with a bit of sceptism given how much I loved my M3 V8 which was new compared to the Z4, but based on the latest releases from Bmw I'm left totally cold.
When you inevitably then look at the financials and stick with a car that's basically not depreciating, slightly appreciating versus putting £10k down and paying £400 a month for 3 years for the M2, you really have to love the M2 to make the switch
Total no brainer in my position

Good view. Haven't driven one myself but the cartoonish looks alone stops me personally.Str6mik wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2017 10:36 pm I don't think I've ever been more disappointed in a car than the M2. I've owned E46 M3, E92 M3, 120d and now the Z4m.

I have both and love them both! I will make a detailed comparison when I have some spare time...

So far you can find my M2 experiences in this topic:

IMO the M2 looks rather well and way less cartoonish then the 1M. In the beginning I was not fully convinced about the looks of the M2 and looks was not the reason why I bought one. Now I like the looks and I love to use the the car everyday...but selling a Z4M for a M2...hmm don't know about that? If you could have only one car then the M2 is awesome! It's a great and practical daily with huge doses of fun and it's also very good on track (with other brake pads). The Z4M is more special, more involving then the M2 (especially steering and engine) and more of an occasion when driving it....but I would not want to drive my Z4M every day. If the car has the purpose of being a special car, that does not need to be a daily then the Z4M is more special/unique/involving then the M2 in my opinion.Argenta wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2017 11:42 pmGood view. id rather have the m2 all day over z4m if its your only car... the z4m is imo Not a comfortable car at all and becomes tiresome very quickly... and they are expensive as a DD, id guess the m2 is much cheaper to run generally and quite abit quicker point to point.
Weekend Toy scenario is a different story however.

My Z4M is my daily & has been for 3 years now.
I love it (no spinal injuries yet )
M2 (w/out MPE) sounds like an average car, not what an M should sound like.
The intake doesn't excite either. I see it as an M235i+ rather than an M2.
The M2 CS has its work cut out for it.

Personally I think the M2 with "standard" exhaust sounds rather good for a turbocharged car and more then loud enough...definitely not as an average car. I have zero needs for a MPE on my M2.NavZ wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2017 9:23 pm My Z4M is my daily & has been for 3 years now.

I'd agree, an M2 as an all round proposition is attractive. But... I just can't get my head around these new turbocharged engines, farts and all. If I was looking for a shopping trolley then a 130i (NA) tuned with a diff would interest me more I think as a daily than an M2 (and save a chunk of money). M2 should be special, yet in some way it just isn't that much to me? Weirdly the even more 'cartoonish' looks of the 1M attract me more. I haven't yet driven one (M2) but have driven an M4 which hasn't helped my opinion probably.
