Alpha N tuning options for carbon airbox

Post by Babw » Wed Aug 16, 2017 12:30 pm

I've been contemplating doing the S54 carbon airbox upgrade for quite sometime and it's definitely happening in the next few months.

Two options are -

Evolve airbox with their tune
Karbonius airbox and tune from?

Apart from Evolve what are my option for tuning the MSS70 in the UK?

Ideally I'd want to get it on a dyno to do some live mapping but some say a base tune with logs from road use is better. I'd rather not get into having cables etc from the US with having to chase US based companies with fine tuning the maps so a UK based company would be preferred.

Tia.

No offence but I wouldn't want to get a DME altered by "someone on the forum". I'd want someone with a reputation so if s**t does hit the fan I have some recourse as they'll want to protect they're rep instead of vanishing off the forum.

These are proper guys and know more than most so called tuning companies haha

They have huge rep on the forum and one of them is even a paid sponsor too!

Its not a hard job its just hard getting someone who knows what they are doing as apposed to someone who thinks they do, I know who I would trust and who will be getting my business!

I've been on the M3cutters forum for a considerable amount of time as I used to own an E46 M3 about 8/9 years ago. Again I'm only veering on the side of caution here but some so called sponsors on there have literally been criminals. A guy who "fixed" SMG gearboxes was arrested for money laundering and drug trafficking. I could be a sponsor on there tomorrow by paying their subscription.

I would prefer to use person/company with a reputation that goes beyond a single forum if possible. Any other suggestions appreciated.

To be fair I'm pretty sure those Cutter guys you're referring to don't do work on our DME anyway, just the M3 one. Guess ours is too niche to bother learning too much about it!

I think these days there are better options.

Exelixis are running AEM Infinity 8 on their Z4M, doubt it will be long before they offer the harness/tuning as a package.

After spending more than my Z4M is worth converting my GTR to use Syvecs I'm definitely not going to be splashing that kind of cash to go with a standalone ECU for this car just to hear a louder induction noise. (Track car is going to having a Link G4+ setup next few weeks as well.)

Quite happy to give Alpha N a go for now.

No worries it your choice.

Maybe fit the air box yourself and head to Evolve then

Hello, I have recently a Karbonius setup with Randy from EpicMotorsports and the setup works like a charm.Even in 43 degrees celsius tested it and no problems.

They won't have a clue how to do it on our dme.

Personally from past experience I would avoid Evolve. If Southampton is not too far for you I can recommend a tuner highly there who did mine, very happy with it and about half evolve's price. Drop me a pm if you like.

Appreciate the response to this and hopefully will provide some insight into others considering this mod. From experiencing it in some E46 M3's I feel it probably adds the most as far as enjoyment goes. Can't wait to hear it with the roof down!

These are the US based tuners I've spoken to, they have a very good reputation but are expensive and chasing them in the US for tune adjustments/logs is something I'd like to avoid if possible.

Evolve box fitted with a tune is £3000, if I can get a Karbonius fitted and tuned for less then I will go with that. Otherwise it'll be Evolve.

Thanks to TomK and Martin from MS Motorsport I'm going to have a Karbonius box in the car soon. Will update as and when I get it delivered, fitted and so on. Appreciate the responses.

Have you considered velocity stacks instead?
