Is it easy to replace a rear indicator LED string, and do whatever is needed to stop the condensation? Mine has blown and all I am being told is contact BMW, which I am assuming would cost squllions

I believe you have to change the entire rear lamp assembly....
Part number left hand side 63217191775
Part number right hand side 63217191776
Type the part numbers into ebay, you will be looking at around £100 - £140

2 things: do these come with the LEDs fitted? which ones will match the originals as I would only be replacing the offside one?

They come as a working unit. Have you tried eBay?

I see there are quite a few on there, just been watching a video on removing them. Must look again and see if I can do it

Not too difficult, just removed both of mine and sealed them, didn't have a condensation problem but noticed the separation along the bottom edge
Car always been garaged so I think that helped.

Did you separate the lens from the body and if so, how did you do this?

No you can't separate the unit, there are a few threads on here about rear light water ingress.
I followed the instructions i found, but basically you remove the centre black part that clips round the bulb holders and seal with silicone, also
check the bottom of the cluster to see if the lens has started to separate from the grey body, seal this with clear silicone.

Looks like Crimbo day job, one of my tail lights sprung another leak, this will be a fourth attempt to seal.
I have one sealed with Evo-stick and one silicone, hoping this is the silicone one leaking.

I did my previous e89.
First attempt was sealant.....failed.
Second attempt, evostick adhesive......perfect!
Will prob do my current e89 when the spring comes around, it’s fine just now but it won’t do any harm to seal it up.....

Well just stripped mine out, it's the silicone one and it has rotted and lifted and one clip has broken off.
So just ordered another lamp unit off ebay. This i will Evo-stick after checking it works ok.
The original plastic seems too shiny for silicone to stick to.

Fitted new tail light, can see the changes they have done, but looks like still using the open cell foam. So will still leak.
So stuck with Evo-Stik (spelt right this time).
They have robbed one mounting bolt in an attempt to fit extra screws to try and seal more effectively.
Problem isn't tightness it's using the open cell foam.
To think something that costs them less than half a Euro is killing these lamps.
Now the lamp moves slightly and seal to boot now moves. Hope that stays sealed.
