I'm getting a bit confused about this too.
Some threads I've read say that the rear reinforcement plate goes on the inside of the mounting point whereas others say it goes on the outside (top). e.g viewtopic.php?t=54869
To reduce the stress forces I think that it would be better for it to go inside, but does the plate actually fit in there ?

I have fitted them on the top, inside the car, so that effectively the metal structure of the car, which is what we're trying to protect, is sandwiched tightly between the top mount assembly and the reinforcing plate.Zulu4 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 18, 2022 10:29 am I'm getting a bit confused about this too.

Seems the most logical to me.
I suspect however, that adding an extra thickness of metal will do the same job of stopping deformation, whichever side it is fitted.
It could even be that the reason for mounting it underneath at the front is purely cosmetic.
If I went to buy a car and there was a reinforcing plate bolted on top of the inner wing I'd be wondering what else needed attention.

Hi Stuart,
Hope you don't mind me gate-crashing your write-up.
I only needed to change the rear shocks (dampers) today and thought I'd share an easy way of doing it without having to remove the wheels -
1. Remove rear shelf & gubbins.
2. Chock front wheels
3. Jack centre rear of car until tyres are only just on ground (& place axle stands just in case).
4. Undo top shock bolts completely (13mm)
5. Undo bottom shock bolt (18mm)
6. Strut drops out without effort.
7. Refit new strut with bottom bolt & lower height of jack as necessary to get top bolts on.
8. Cup of tea.
Edit, I was a little disappointed the Lemforder top mounts don't come with the top gasket. I ended up making new ones out of a thin sheet of plastic.

That's handy if it's all your doing. Saves a bit of time and if you know the rest of your car is ok then no worries at all.
I guess for Stuart and I at least, buying unknown motors it's still worth the extra effort as we'd be checking everything else under there.
But if anyone wants the job done for them, then I'll be looking at this method now.
