Post by Kelayan » Wed Jan 13, 2010 1:10 pm

Hey i was wondering if someone could help me i have noticed that after driving in rain and stoping the rain is steaming and evaporating off my bonnet and i hear sizzling noises too. I temp gauge is fine and have checked if it faulty or not, the coolant and oil levels are all fine too. Is this normal on sports car as i have not seen it on my others cars. could some one help please??

Not sure about the sizzling noises but its normal to have steam. The bonnet on the Z4 is quite thin and made of aluminium so gets quite warm.

the sizzling noise is from the rain steaming off! is it normal for the bonnet to be that hot to steam off like that?

Quite thankful to hear that the steaming is common as I get the same thing. Having said that I went back to mine after about an hour of being parked up this morning and it was still steaming, is that normal?

I get this, and i did on my old car too. It's nothing to worry about, it's just the outcome of a hot engine and cold rain getting put together.

Phew - was wondering what the steam was on the drive home. Looked at other cars in traffic and they didn't seem to have any so thought it couldn't be the rain :D

I get the steam too.

A little off topic... are all the metal panels aluminium?

Thought it was just the bonnet ?

Dread to think what panels cost i know the bonnet is around 2k or so i have been told not sure if that is fitted and sprayed or just the bonnet.

The bonnet is aluminium but don't think you will find any others are.

Hood/bonnet is aluminum and I don't think any of them have fiber insulation in there.
