MK3 Ford Focus

Postby cjp2k - Sun Jan 22, 2012 10:58 am

We have just placed an order for a mk3 focus which we pick up on Tuesday, we decided against the new 1series as it was expensive and vw would not offer any discounts on the golf.

its a1.6 titanium with nav dab radio, cruise, city stop, blind spot info and god knows what else...best bit its nearly £7k cheaper than a similar spec 1 series

I know its not a z4...but I am quite looking forward to it...if I want to drive it however I need to hand the keys of my e89 over to the Mrs!

MK3 Ford Focus

Not worth it. Hold onto your keys mate.

Take it out for a spin when the Mrs isn't looking. Hehe :)

Theres only one defence I have for the 1 series and that is you can get 3 years servicing for a one off payment of £250, which I think is a bargain.

Right that said, good purchase im sure you will enjoy your focus!

true resale is an issue...but I can't use that agreement with the Mrs...look at the resale of the zeds :o

we got 21% discount as its the older version of the mk3 as its ford branded nav not Sony and they had it in stock, also got 1k more than cap for her fiesta so all in all a good deal as we are first keeper etc!

Good choice It's a great car
I've been using a series of long term rentals for the last year and always ask for different motors, the Focus Titanium knocked spots off the new Astra SRi I have at the moment. The Focus feels lighter and far better planted on the road and if you are on the tall/large side like myself is far more comfortable. A bottom end 1 series will be small, underpowered and under equipped by comparison (although I hated the general 'gadget fest' and pointless key-less system on the Focus).

my parents have a new shape megane with full key free entry start etc which is very good, the focus and new 1 series have standard remote locking but keyfree start....seems pointless to me

Keyless entry is brilliant, no need to remove the key out of the pocket, very handy if you have done shopping and no need to reach for the key's. had it on both of our Renault's for the past 6 years!

Key-less isn't so good if the key battery goes flat and decodes whilst out walking some remote place in central France, a family member ended up having to leave their Renault to hike half the Central Massif with kids in tow to get help and the local Cartwright wasn't really equipped to sort it, I'll stick with a key thanks :)

Is that right? If he got 21% off the list of the Focus the book says he stands to lose another £9k off his actual purchase price over 4 years (he would have lost about £12.5k if he'd paid list on the Focus). If he'd paid list for a similar priced Golf he'd lose about £11k over the same period. The Golf is nicer inside, but has less kit and does not drive any better so unless you must have a VW I'd say he's had a good deal.

Depreciation was a concern, but 21% discount on list does help a lot, we plan on running the car 5 years or so,

The most we could of got on the golf would of been 8-9% if we used a broker, non of the local dealer would offer anything really for some reason.

The focus has got a very good spec compared to the Golf Match 1.4TSI we looked at.

If any car is going to bankrupt me in depreciation is the E89

I would never buy a Ford. What is so wrong with the looks of the 1 Series? Have you actually seen one, not just in magazines.
I think they are quiet classy looking.
I think the Focus looks pig ugly and is just a load of common tripe, money just thrown away.
The Focus is no cheaper than say a VW Golf Bluemotion. The VW much better car in every aspect. I would rather buy a Fiat than a Ford IMO.

I've got to say I'd never buy a ford also. Especially after my best friend has had to replace 8 injectors in here 2002 Focus just 6 months into ownership. Dont get me wrong thats not all Ford's fault but its certainly not added to my reservations.

Saying that I wouldnt buy Ford or Italien. Has to be German, Jap or Korean for me!
