and the car in question is a Golf:

Fair enough it is a R... but its still only a 2.0 Golf... hardly a supercar!

Typical Journo over egging it to make a headline.

Golf does not = supercar

I'm trying to work out whether its a bad advert for the car or police drivers?

Hmmm... Test drive, 1.50am, no other vehicles involved, roundabout - in a 4WD performance car with lots of electronics. I think the latter lacroupade. He is an ANPR intercept officer - IMO this shouldn't happen to him if he's any good at his job. Though there is no mention of weather as a factor.

icy conditions were mentioned in the report I read of it:

Surely an ANPR intercept trained driver would be savvy enough to expect ice and drive accordingly. Without being there nobody knows what happened I guess.
A Golf isn't a supercar though! Maybe the author drives a more normal spec Golf and fancies the hot hatch one day?

there has also been mention of a train track across the roundabout...

note, I'm not defending the driver at all... but we all make mistakes :D

Lucky to get out of that - seems like a good advert for the accident safety provisions VW has engineered...

yeah i read the driver had to be cut out.

TBH accidents happen.. despite how well trained a driver is... even racing drivers have accidents on normal public roads.. so sh1t happens i guess.

But a hatchback... regardless of its engine is not a supercar... i wouldnt even class it as a sports car... most people wouldnt be able to the tell the difference between the Golf R and the Golf bluemotion!

Morally I agree with you Aquazi, but what about this -

Well, the conclusion of the investigation will be that a speed camera is needed at the site 8)

Yeah, you've got to love the Sun's approach to journalism :D

... yeah, all they need to do now is somehow link it to Katie Price and the circle is complete!

Anonymous tip that she was involved in a photo shoot at the side of the road when it happened :P
