Styling 89 on an E85?

Postby Steiner - Wed May 30, 2012 11:21 pm

Hey!

So I have horrible 16" wheels (not even genuine) on my Z4, and I'm thinking about putting off my plans for buying a set of 18" 107s or 108s for this summer and going with a set of cheaper 17" Styling 89 wheels.

Has anybody here seen these under a Zed? How did that come out? The wheels I'm looking at supposedly have an E46 offset, but judging from the pictures they seem a bit wide.

Any thoughts on this?

Sincerely,

I reckon it'll look quite nice as long as the offset isn't too out. If it'll be anything like the pics you have then a big no no IMO. Also, looks like it'll fail an MOT.

Sure there was a guy on here that had them on his silver E85. Offset of 47 is same as other Z4 wheels so should be fine

peddy, why would you say that these would fail an MOT? I'm not familiar with UK inspection rules, but over here they've done some ridiculous things to their wheels and cars and have passed all inspections.

The wheels in the pictures are the ones I'm looking at. The offset is a bit daunting, I wonder if these came of an E60 or even an E65!

Sorry, just realised you're in Germany.
Over here it'll fail an MOT if the wheels stick out more than the arches. Check for similar rules.

Sorry, not in Germany anymore (fixed my profile). I'll check, but I share your opinion on the offset. Wouldn't like to see this on the Zed, but I'll check the wheels out in person and try to measure them!

Ooh, those don't look bad at all! Thanks a lot for that, gannet. Now I just have to fit them on the car.

They look far better on the Zed than on that 3 series, and do sort of have an Alpina feel to them.

Truth is on seeing the original pictures on the 3 series I thought they looked awful, but thought I'd keep my mouth shut in light of whats happened elsewhere, but then Gannets post of them on the Zed and I thought they look alright, so my comment is genuine. :D

Unless he has very wide spacers the offset on that wheel looks very wrong. If it doesn't have spacers I would say that it definitely isn't an offset 47, at a guess I would say the offset is somewhere in the 20's. I have doubts it will fit on the Z without fouling the arch.

Are you in a position to try them on the car before parting with your cash? Can the seller confirm what the offsets are? If the answer is no to both those questions I would look elsewhere as I would have severe doubts they will fit without issues.

I like the style though, they look quite nice

For info here is a picture of my old E46. The wheels had an offset of 35, close to the lowest offset you can get away with before rubbing issues on the E46.

Image

As you can see they are quite close to the arch, but they are tucked in far more than the ones you are looking at.

As the Z4's run similar offsets to the E46 I would say those wheels probably won't fit without a struggle (unless there are spacers fitted on that car of course!).

I doubt he has spacers, so these wheels are most likely off, sadly. Very annoyed with the current set of wheels I have, they pull a lot from the car.

A friend has a set of Style 23 M-Contours which have an ET 41 offset. Never seen those under a Z4 before and I wonder if the car can pull it, aesthetically. Anybody here seen a set of those underneath a Z4? How did it look?

For reference, these are my current wheels:
