Does anyone know if e85 wheels will fit my e89? Looking at the possibility of a set for the worst winter months

Cheers

I don't think they will without spacers.
I looked at various e85 wheels when I was looking for 17" winter wheels for my e89 but decided the offsets were too far ou7 (ET47ish)
The standard 17" e89 wheels with 225/45/17 tyres are ET29. The 19" 296 style are ET29 on the front and ET40 on the rear 235/35/19 and 265/30/19 respectively)
I was advised that +\- 5 on theOFFSET (ET number) would prob be ok.
I got a set of 157 style e90 17" wheels from a 335i coupe which are ET34. So hopefully they will fit ok. The rears should definately fit as they are between the factory offsets, the front will sit 5mm inboard, but should be ok.

this site will let you check the dimensions & offsets of the various BMW wheels

Not sure if this helps any - but, as a temporary measure, while I get my Coupe 108's refurbished, I put my E89 296's on the E86.

Hey they look really good on an e86

As for the OP, a set of 17" 3 series wheels are your best bet for winter tyres

This is an interesting thread as not sure what to do come winter :?

I had a BMW winter wheel package on my previous 1 Series but sold the wheels as they wouldn't fit the E89.

Not sure if to fork out on a set for the Zed or just leave it and chance it? or see what other second hand BMW styles will fit.

i just buy another car for the winter :D

Not as daft as it sounds, I've often thought of buying a cheap runaround with skinny tyres in November and flogging it again in March, something like a Panda 4x4 :) if its cheap enough haven't got to worry about it being knocked.

Those Fiat Panda 4x4s look quite good!

I learned to drive in a Fiat Panda 4x4 the first one, huge fun in the snow and quite capable, white with front and back bull bars :)

i try and have a second car as a runabout so i can take it and leave it anywhere and not worry about it

unfortunately my last one (astra coupe linea rosso auto) was borrowed by a mate last month and he has decided to keep it as he really likes it, so i need to find myself another one now :(

he has agreed to pay me 1k for it though..... as soon as he sells his car lol

The winter of 2010 my 1 Series sat on the drive for 3 weeks when we had the bad cold spell, the car was a disaster in the snow and luckily I only got stranded outside the house and managed to get it back on the drive. Scary on 18" runflats. 2011 I bought some BMW 16" alloys with winter runflats for £1250 and it hardly snowed :headbang:

The Panda 4x4s are quite scarce for a couple of grand, I was thinking of around 1200 quid for one. More I think about it the more I like the idea and over 4 or 5 months would probably get back I what I paid for it.

I have a Suzuki Jimny little 4x4. But the wife takes first dibs on that when the weathers bad!

Why bother with a Panda when you can get the real deal for less:

As always, the usual disclaimer applies: I don't know the seller and have no idea if the car is fit for anything. . . .

Think I would rather have the Panda, sure the Lada is capable off road but thinking of the noise, comfort, refinement and fuel economy of something made of that era

1.4 Polo with skinny tires, none of that ESP ASR DTC DSC electronic rubbish, just good old fashioned front wheel drive on skinny little tires! Can be picked up for a couple of grand, cheap to run, cheap to insure, never been stuck and never missed a beat!

But it has a motor pulled from a 1980's Fiat Brava. Nothing like a Marelli distributor and a 30 year old Webber carb.

You and Debbie. No sense of fun at all. :D
