Number plate surround - who uses them?
Hi all,
Due the curved nature of the front bumper I was wondering if anybody has installed a number plate surround rather than drilling holes in their number plate? If so would it be possible to post pics so I can get an idea of what it looks like?
Once upon a time I remember seeing pics of quite a discreet black bordered version but I can't remember where. This is probably the sort of thing I am looking for. Alternatively if you have any tips on how I can get the number plate onto the original holder without using screws that would appreciated. I've used a few types of double sided tapes in the past but they all seem to buckle under the unbendy pressure of the number plate at some point.
Thanks

I used sticky pads on both of my number plates.

Re: Number plate surround - who uses them?
Here you go - No screws and on original holder
Put a bit of a curve in the numberplate first by laying it face-down with the outer edges on a couple of supports (I used wood blocks about 4" high), then put a fairly hefty weight in the centre to bend the plate downwards by much more than the curve that you want - with 4" blocks mine was nearly hitting bottom
Heat the whole plate with a hairdryer and then leave overnight to cool down - when you remove the weight you should see that the plate flattens a fair bit but now has a curve.
Stick to original holder with lots of heavy-duty external-rated double sided pads or tape
NB If you have an old plate available it might be a good idea to practice with that first.

Re: Number plate surround - who uses them?
I had my plate stuck without the holder straight to the bumper with no issues.
Used halfords 3mm 3M tape and cleaned and heated the tape to the car.

Re: Number plate surround - who uses them?
Thanks for the responses guys. I've tried lots of different tapes and none of them have done the job for very long. I'll give the heated bendy plate with lots of sticky tape a go to see if it works
No that wasn't me. I'm guessing it's Martin's car as he has the other black RS in Aberdeen. I'm still running winters and hardtop at the moment but given the heat wave that we are expecting today I may go back to summer spec in a few hours timeZermattV wrote:Can't help on the Number plate Gee.. I removed mine to fit a shortened plate, I've used Velcro to attach mine

Yep must be Martins then ... Judging by the weather out here I'd hang off a few hours yet
