now running 2015
You can buy the latest maps disks from BMW for approx. £160.Andy_mc_mac wrote:Sorry - just to clarify for a newb... I can go into a BMW dealer and request the newest software?
They will insert a new disc and upgrade the DVD nav's firmware?
What's the cost of the above? Approx £80-£100?
I would have thought that the firmware would get to a certain age and not be programmable with the newest software?
Thanks
Thanks for your reply! Is it complicated to update the firmware of the system myself? I presume I need to download the update and plug in a USB stick into the system?DPG wrote:You can buy the latest maps disks from BMW for approx. £160.Andy_mc_mac wrote:Sorry - just to clarify for a newb... Firmware you can update yourself, but if you'd rather BMW did it then id probably say half an hour labour.
So maybe £230 in total.
Ahh brilliant - I'll be sure to pop into my local dealers and enquire then!mj2k wrote:I purchased new maps from bmw a few months back, think they were only £50 or so as now released quarterly. Certainly well below £100 as remember being very shocked at the quote so cheap
Slow burn the software onto a DVD & very easy upgrade. Although if you are going to use legit maps, there isn't a huge benefit in upgrading the firmware. Cannot remember your current software, but should already have 3D view in a hidden menu IIRC, but might be wrong.Andy_mc_mac wrote:Thanks for your reply! That's good if it's only £50 now.Andy_mc_mac wrote:Ahh brilliant - I'll be sure to pop into my local dealers and enquire then!mj2k wrote:I purchased new maps from bmw a few months back, think they were only £50 or so as now released quarterly. Ah, so must have got a discount from my Indy dealer when I purchased it, as he was exBMW with prior contacts.Taz wrote:£70 + Vat at my dealers, just checked
do indys get things any cheaper?mj2k wrote:Ah, so must have got a discount from my Indy dealer when I purchased it, as he was exBMW with prior contacts.Taz wrote:£70 + Vat at my dealers, just checked
To be fair, there are still roads that have been traffic light junctions vs roundabouts for 6years not being reflected in the maps - but know it's not BMWs fault but the mapping company.
No, but before he set up on his own he spent 20yrs with them, so am sure with that fact, my INS2 & the M5 knob there was a discount above normal rates then. Will try and look at the paperwork when work is less demanding, maybe got my facts wrong / missed the smaller costs when getting a new carTaz wrote:do indys get things any cheaper?mj2k wrote:Ah, so must have got a discount from my Indy dealer when I purchased it, as he was exBMW with prior contacts.Taz wrote:£70 + Vat at my dealers, just checked
