My z4 motor has also stopped working, releases but does not move. Anyone got contact number for bowser 134, heard good things on forum of his work.

Hey bowser134, my '08 z4 roof has stopped working too. The roof unlatches/latches but doesn't go up or down. Any chance you could help? Thanks

Best bet is to have the motor moved out of the rear void it normally sits in to the boot area. Roof stays on for this and added bonus it can be topped up and swapped in an hour if it should fail for any other reason than water ingress.
Just drilling holes in the plastic cylinder the motor sits in will only work if the main drain is clear - if not it will flood with water at 1 inch deep instead of 8 inches.
See Mike in St Helens on here , moved for £80 while you wait an hour....contact mike at [email protected] he does key coding , exhaust box "growler" mod and can do dealer level programming with an i pad like device via your OBD socket on bluetooth. I had roof open AND close with remote on key and alarm audible set, silent un set.
