I chased and then was chased by a Stage I ESS SC E46 M3 on an airfield track day. It marginally had the legs on the straights but despite a Brembo BBK, stripped interior, track tyres and (IIIRC) Nitrons, he couldn’t keep up through the tight technical sections (my ///M was modified as it is now).
In the end he went in because he was beginning to lose power from heat soak and I went in after pushing my luck a bit too far and eating a couple of cones through a tight corner next to the pit exit.
I didn’t realise until we were chatting afterwards that he had about 100bhp on me and probably 50-100kg less weight too.
