Now.. I know I'm not famous for changing cars very often but I am considering buying a new car (or two) and would like some recommendations:

Always fun for 'car people' IMHO.

Criteria:
Estate car (not an SUV thing I can't stand them). The bigger inside the better.
Petrol (as I do a lot of very short journeys)
2016 or newer
50k or less
Must have sat nav and parking sensors
Must be fun..I don't want a 100hp washing machine.
Budget is around £15k, give or take a couple of bags of sand.

I have a car in mind, but any suggestions?

I had a Passat Estate TSI 2 litre AWD. Loads of room and quite quick off the mark. Not looked at prices recently though.

That's not going to be easy with your desired criteria, my choices don't include the Ford Focus as you don't remind me of a chav :D
1) BMW 3 series MSport estate https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-detail ... 16&fromsra
2) Audi A4 2.0 TFSI SLine https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-detail ... 16&fromsra
But if you can stretch to a bit more then
3) Volvo V60 T4 https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-detail ... 16&fromsra
Good shout on the Passat
4) Volkswagen Passat 2.0 DSG https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-detail ... 16&fromsra

Had a mk5 ST two years ago. Great car but been there, done that. The mk4 is within budget but is a little 'chavvy'. :D

Head, hit, nail on the!
Best VFM for what I want, as far as I can see. I was thinking of another Mazda6 estate, as I have had two and they are great, but the petrol is a n/a 2 litre so is a bit 'boring'.

Would you own it for that long though?

We had a boring 1 litre Octavia which was kept for three years (leased, mind). Great car just needed a bit more poke, so the VRs (with the Golf GTi engine) seems just the ticket.

Also forgot to mention in the criteria;
Must be manual. Not keen on those automagic thingies. Also the wife flatly refuses to drive an auto.

Good shout. More non-identical twin!
Didn't think of a Cupra. I prefer the looks of the Skoda, but if the Seat is cheaper for the equivalent, then definitely wouldn't discount it.

What about a Superb estate, bigger again than the Octavia and I think there’s a big engined 4 wheel drive version

Hmm, 3.6V6 but might be DSG only
