Here me out..
These things divide the nation.

They reduce the dead space between the floor and the bite point.

They're marketed as a device to speed up shifts and all that nonsense. While I'm sure they may do that by 0.004 of a second, they're fantastic for short legged folk such as myself.

That last inch of dead travel is quite uncomfortable in many of my previous BMWs, the E86 included. I plan to install one soon enough.

Anyone else running one of these devices?
(They really are just a small cylinder of plastic)

The mounting hole in the firewall is threaded M10 so, if you're feeling excitable, a 10mm bolt and some imagination and you can make your own. I happened across a random cabinet foot, cut a bit off and fitted it to my E46. Didn't really make a vast difference but it gets rid of the vagueness at the end of travel.

Fitted one, I have weirdly short legs for my height (im 5 11 and have 30 inch inside leg!) but yes the dead travel is noticeable when you swap it out. And for the tenner it costs its not a big outlay for something that makes it more comfortable, win win.

M10, got it.. Let me look to see if I have anything that will suit. Thanks. I'm not after any 'performance' gain, more so to help with my stumpy legs.

Exactly. I'll try and fashion somthing together from my box of bits, or purchase one.

I'm in the same short-leg brigade (5'9, 28" leg) and I keep meaning to do this for the Z as I find the pedal positioning quite different to the E46 and I think it might be more of an improvevment than before.

Big-up to the shorty legs, unite!

The stop is 30mm

I made my own: M10 bolt, a nut to tighten against the firewall to ensure the bolt stays at defined height and a small sticky felt pad on top of bolt head to smoothen pedal stop. Bit of playing with bolt length and nut adjustment to have short travel but be well clear of bite point and guaranteed smooth shifts. As others said, it is about comfort and less leg extension rather that shift speed, it allowed me to push my seat back and be more comfortable on throttle/brakes

I find that if I put the seat to the correct position for the brake and accelerator I need to twist my hip to push the clutch pedal far enough to change gear. Mine seems to go a long way to the floor with no dead space. The garage told me that there is nothing wrong with the clutch. I would not be able to fit something 30mm under the pedal, there’s no room?

I have a load of dead space at the bottom of the travel.
This evening I fashioned a DIY stop, about 25mm.
It works perfectly.
I found an old door stop, chopped it, glued it to the existing stop. Sorted.
