We still have our Philips Amp and speakers, as output for Computers and TV in the lounge. Used every night we've been home, since we bought them, back in the 80's.

Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be. :fuelfire:

Are you all going to start ditching your OLED’s and buying massive 32’’ CRT TV’s that take up more floor space than a sofa.

I need to keep working if this is what retirement does to you :o
So if an E Type V12 was dropped on your drive for the day you would say no thanks

I used to go to Airshows in the 80s flying from Coventry Airport in a DC3 Dakota. Now if I had taken the view no chance, too old fashioned, what an experience missed. Just saying :)

Tim.
Tim, you are comparing two exhilarating pieces of machinery to a hissy, slow, poor sounding, not particularly practical, music source, and you want to play tapes in it that you intend to record from a CD player source?…

That’s like comparing a night with Margot Robbie to a night playing dominoes with your sister.

In all seriousness though… as long as you’re having fun

The whole point, though for me, is you can have both.
A night with Margot Robbie (whoever she is?) on a Friday and dominoes with your sister on a Sunday.

That is the beauty of being of our generation; the tech from our yooff is still viable along with the tech from this generation and the generation in between.

Vinyl has gone in and out of fashion more times than 'Wham' in the last 40 years.

It's exactly the same as why a 1985 Ford Escort Turbo is worth £40k. It's not better than anything modern, it's just nostalgic. Those that buy £40k old Fords also drive BMs or Mercs, or Audis everyday.

That's what I was trying get across, doesn't really matter what you're comparing, I just happen to pull out an E Type out of a hat. If using that example most classic cars if being truthful were of rubbish build and not really that great to drive but people enjoy them for what they are. So if I'm using a Sony Walkman I know its limitations, its not perfect but it doesn't matter, its taking me back 40 years or more to a time when it was to me the bees knees, thats all that matters.

I had to Google Margot Robbie, but got Robbie Coltrane instead

That would also be a night you’d never forget (if he were still with us)… but for very different reasons

Picked up a cleaner CD and after using it a dozen times the CD player finally decided to work and recorded a Hendrix CD to tape :) Sounds much better now with the tape hiss in between tracks :)

Just a shout out to Iain (Mr Tidy) for sending me a load of new cassette tapes for the cost of postage. Thank you Iain much appreciated, true gent

Unfortunately the CD player has had it me thinks so decided rather than pulling the system apart and wrecking it  I've invested in a refurbished TEAC player that I can connect in :)
