hi , has anyone experienced problems with door not opening ? i have 2010 z4 ,during this cold spell the drivers door wont open, it unlocks but wont open , never had an issue until cold weather. the door lever lifts but wont release, had to climb in passenger door, still wont open from inside. However once car warmed up the door opened fine. Question, will cold weather affect the lock actuater ? expensive part to replace ,want to be sure thats the problem. Grateful for any information or advice, many thanks Dialy

Quite common ..if there’s a bit of moisture things stick..bit of silicone on rubber and maybe a bit of WD40 in the lock..

If it’s the actuator will this not show with a diagnostic?

Have same issue with my 64 plate E89 every winter when it freezes . Windows dont drop even when door handle is pulled up. Door wont open despite having used gummi phledge on door seals several times. I use an old credit card pushed between window and seal and work round. Also push card between top of door panel and bottom window seal. Eventually window usually drops down and I can then slowly open door hopefully without damaging door seal.

Unfortunately - if you force it open (even 'gently') you are very very likely to be causing damage to the seal.

Same circumstances next time it freezes hard will ge gradually worse (best case) or properly wrecked seals if you are clumsy.

No way to force open a frozen door without doing something bad - even if it's just a tiny bit.

Are you sure? 99/100 its the door seal sticking.
If it was only one door then it is possible the other door was sheltered more (or the sun had already got to it before you arrived).
Try parking the car the other way round and see what happens.

i had this last week when frosty. The passenger door would not open as the window would not drop, I was able to get in the drivers side and switch on the heating. Once the passenger side defrosted a bit it opened fine.

Definitely not frozen door seal ,wish it was.
I can feel door moving if I press against it, as when I do get the door open it won't close properly, not latching and window doesn't rise unless I press against the door but still doesn't latch. Have driven it holding door closed until it warms up,then fine til the next time . Did have a word with auto trician, he reckons tired actuater.

Odd!
Have you checked that both the door internal mechanism and striker plate bolts are all tight? If just one was a little loose, it would make something shift, possibly enough to give this problem. It's worth checking.

Maybe take a look inside the door to see if water is coating the actuator mechanism and freezing. Lube it up with oil and see how you get on. Worth a try to avoid replacing parts👍
