The instructions say I should have 2 x of each!

Anyone else's kit come with a different number of bits than expected? I'm not sure how I'm supposed to connect G to D now. Connecting E to F shouldn't be a problem.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me.
I contacted the stealer and got them to send me the 2 missing D plugs, as you should indeed have two of each.

Good luck with the fitting.
Cheers, mate, I received my replacement plugs this morning having spoken to the dealer. Brilliant service from Jamie at Sopers.

Now I've got the whole thing rigged up and it isn't working. The stalk does nothing and the "faulty light" warning light is on. What have I done?!

Dan -

The two places where the fitting could possibly go wrong are:
1. make sure that you have cut the correct brown cable leading to pin 31 as per the bmw instructions. From what i have read, other people that have cut the wrong cable got a warning light.

2. In the IVM section, make sure the blue cable on the wiring harness is plugged in correctly. In my case (N52) the bmw instructions are wrong and it needs to go in 39 of the grey 42 pin block.

I hope that helps

Cheers for the suggestion, it's the M54 engine, but a 2005 Zed, so I still had to route the loom into the engine bay. Hence why I'm posting on here, as I couldn't find a M54 thread for post 2004 cars.

Anyway, yesterday I found out that my brake lights are permanently on, oh dear. I'm taking the car apart this afternoon to check the wiring, but any ideas in the meantime? Why are my brake lights permanently on?

Do you cut the wires behind your light harness by their colour only or did you chase each of the wires back to make sure they went to pin locations 27 & 31. There are two wires that are violet/yellow and 2 wires that are black/brown?

I did it by colour and pin, I'm almost 100% certain I traced it back to the right pin as I was so paranoid I'd cut the wrong one. :(

Did you slide the pin blocks back into their holder on the right sides?

Just been quoted £33.25 for the cable (61.12.0.411.248) to go with the stalk. Seems expensive - is it?

£18 sounds about right from sopers. Bmwminispares have gone out of business i think as their website appears to have no stock.

Edit: Never mind. They're numbered! Took it apart and one of the connectors has come off. Hopefully problem solved!

I think so, which side is which?

Difficult to describe. From memory, i think there is a pin number at the start of the row on both the holder and the pin blocks. It may be possible to put the pin blocks in on the wrong sides, or even back to front on the correct sides as they were rectangular and symetrical.

Yup, they're numbered. I've checked it's the right one.

I found a connection had fallen off, so I've resolded it into the crimp, but the brake lights are still on!

Fixed! Two of the connectors had not been crimped properly (shoddy work on my behalf) so the circuit wasn't being completed.

Thanks for all the help! I'm now enjoying cruise control AND working brake lights. Luxury!

Just fitted my cruise this morning. Relatively straightforward, thanks to this useful guide, although there are a few shortcuts I'd add. No need to remove glove box, for example.

All working fine, except I notice the passenger window 'one-touch' close no longer works. Driver's side OK, and passenger one-touch open OK. Maybe just a coincidence, as I don't see hopw I'd have interefered with the window wires.

Now for the GapTech (when it arrives)!

The window "one touch" doesn't work since you've disconnected the battery. I'll try and dig out the window-reset procedure for you, but have a search on the forum for it.
