Hardwiring a tracker to Z4 Coupe

Hi All,
I've done some searching on the boards for instructions, or at least some pointers in the right direction, with regards to hardwiring a tracking device in to my car.
In all the reading I've done, I am still a bit in the dark in some very basic areas - so if these questions sound daft, don't laugh at me!
To hardwire a device in to your car, I assume it goes via the fuse box? And in the Z4 the fuse box is behind the glove box? I saw a diagram that detailed which areas of the fuse box were permanently powered and which were not, so that leads me to believe that this is where you get your power from.
Where's best to start with something like this, given that Im' a total n00b when it comes to any car related modifications. I'm a technically competent person, just not in cars!
