Anyone got/had a facelifted 7str X5, 35d, the twin turbo one?
Thoughts & experiences? Thinking of getting one as the family bus...

X5 7str 35d experience?

We bought an X6 E71 40D at the beginning of July and its absolutely fantastic.
The 40D has an 8 speed gearbox instead of a 6 speed thats in the 35D and is apparently smoother for it. Slightly more power too.
For a vehicle so large it is really unbelievably quick, on paper its just over 6 seconds 0-60.
I never ever wanted an auto but as there was no choice I had to dive in and to be honest I think I would now choose this over a manual.
Using every day for short journeys and longer weekend runs shows just over 30mpg on the computer.

I love my E70 DD. 3.0d not 35d that you want but can vouch for it as a great machine. Especially if you get one with all the toys!!

Whereas I'd LOVE a 40D, my budget prob won't stretch that far, as it'll be a cash purchase because I don't like finance. I think the 35d should be pokey enough for me, coming from a 163bhp XC90!

I have a 2012 E70 35d and it is fantastic. The hardest thing to get used to is the diesel noise, which is better than most diesels but much louder than petrol. The biggest issue seems to be surrounding the emissions and DEF, which I'm still reading about. I've had mine about a year now and had to have a noX sensor replaced under warranty (about $500 each, there are two). Apart from that she has been a blast. The torque is amazing. Mine has about 62k on her now and I think I'm getting signs of turbo waste gate rattle under throttle load; she rattles a bit when I first put my foot down. I don't have the seven seater, but I would recommend one based on my experience.

For the UK market, the 35d was in 2008/2009 only and was replaced by the 40d after that. The US engine is different though.
You will love the power of the unit.
Not sure if the pre-facelift model ever had the 8 speed gearbox though, I think the 35 will have the 6 speed one.

Ok, so was supposed to go look at a 35d this morning, but, for some reason, it comes back on "my car check" as an "X5 3.0SD SE 7S" which to me, says 30d, or am I wrong

However, it does show 281.6 bhp, which is correct for a 35d
I got the last 7 digits of the VIN, and whacked it into the decoder, and it shows the power as 210, I presume KW, which again is 281.6 bhp.

Dealer tells me it is a 35d, but in the pics, it looks like it says 3.0sd on the door to me..
So am considering this one instead,

few more miles, but good history, and miles don't bother me as long as it's reflected in the price. Just waiting for him to get me the last 7 so I can check the spec.
To top it off, I think for another £2k, I can probably be in a 40d M Sport

The eariler 3.5d were badged 3.0sd. Both the sequential turbo 3.0 oil burner at 286PS or 282 proper horses.
We had a 7 seater 3.0sd 2008. It did 160K miles before we offloaded but plagued by electrical issues. SE is a better bet than the M Sport which even after ditching the run flats was still a crap ride. Great handling for a big motor but I think too much at the expense of comfort seeing its a family wagon. 7 Seaters have rear air suspension - common failure due to leaking cylinders. Water in the rear lights on early E70s another. Moon roofs nice but jam. Take a nose around xdrivers forum to get a picture of what goes wrong.
Goes well though. Fuel expect low 20s mpg around town. Fast motorway (85-90) gets higher 20s. Driving at 75-80 gets 30. I think the later models are a bit better in that respect.
Like any BMW the options list is huge. Ours had about 15K worth on it.
If you can find it, comfort seats is a fantastic option. Best seats ever in a car. Ours were heated and cooled, although the cool function was a bit naff. I drove to Italy in ours once - 17hrs and the seat was so comfortable. The rear seats though are shite. Very uncomfortable in the 7 seater, so the kids say. I only rode in the back once... and they are not wrong!
Missus loved it of course and mourns the loss.
