Hi all,
Only had my 2010 30i Msport for two weeks. Was a bit disappointed this morning to find drips off water coming from the interior light surround and the mirror housing (where it attaches to the windscreeen.
There seems to be water inside the light housing which is slowly escaping.
I retracted the roof and checked the seals. They all seem to be in perfect condition and dry. The only other possible is the windscreen seal.
I have attached some images, but you have to look closely. This isnt a stream of water. Just drips. Irritating drips...
Anyone else had this?
Is it a known fault I can have sorted?
Thanks
Nick

Fingers crossed, that is all it is. It just seems odd, that it has been fine for the last two weeks, and suddenly appears after a heavy rainfall last night...
Thanks
Nick

Have you had the roof open when it's been wet, reason I ask is that a few weeks back I got a little over enthusiastic when cleaning my Z.

I opened the roof, wiped along the top of the windscreen then decided to lubricate the rubber with Gummi pfledge. Then for some unknown reason I thought why not spray some lubricating spray in and around the metal roof retaining holes in the top of the screen.

Looked in the car later to see that it had run through on to the rear of the sun visors and down the A posts!

Very embarrassing but live and learn

Cheers, Colin.

Hi,
Not since I first looked at it, that was in the rain. I would have thought it would have made its way out before now. It just seems a bit too coincidental for it to have chucked it down last night, and this morning I get drips.
It is coming out, on the corner joint, right next to the sos button.
More comes out when braking, which suggests there is a small puddle up there.
The garage I bought it from are having a look under warranty on Saturday.
Thanks.
Nick

Sounds like it's a waiting game now your booked in.

Definatley worth getting a bottle of gummy pfledge to give all roof and door seals a good old lube.
I lube the seals once every other month just to make sure they're happy. A leaking roof is my 2nd biggest worry after vandalism, so wishing you a prompt fix!

My windscreen seal had failed a few years ago but it took me ages to notice. Eventually, in the winter the car was icing up on the inside of the windscreen, and I was getting a few drips coming down off the rear view mirror. Not exactly the same as yours, but similar.

I took the car to BMW, and while I was going for a drive, an engineer was pressing the windscreen outward to the point that you could see daylight between the edge of the screen and the surround (eek!). Sadly, BMW wouldn't cover the seal under warranty but Auto Windscreens (very carefully) took the windscreen off and refitted it with a new seal - job done

Thanks.
That sounds like the most likely cause.
It rained heavily last night, but not a drop this morning...
All a bit odd.

Thanks
Nick

Further development.
It seems the seal on the original BMW windscreen has failed.
When they taped over the seal for the roof, water came in. When they taped over the windscreen edge, nothing came in.
I washed the car yesterday (by hand) then removed the internal trim and there was no water present at all.
It rained last night, and this morning, I found water all over the gearstick surround etc (see image)
They are planning to remove and replace the windscreen
I will let you know what happens.

Windscreen seal had failed. Screen out, renew seal, replace.
Waiting for the sealant to set overnight then will be tested again.
It was an original BMW screen and seal as well.
Hopefully now sorted and won't be raining in my car again...

Does the car have it's original windscreen? If not, then it could be a case of the new screen not having been fitted correctly...Maybe :?

It was and still will be an original BMW screen. The garage have never seen one fail and are amazed that an original screen seal has gone..
Being done tomorrow

Turns out, that there was next to no sealant on the top edge of the windscreen. No wonder it leaked. The techs were horrified.
