Left or Right?

Had the last couple of days off and the weather has been fantastic. First day got the wheels off and spruced up my calipers and anti - rattle clips.

Second day not a lot to do just a few wee messages at the shops so thought I would get them out of the way. Got to the bottom of the road and the choice was there.... left to the shops or right?

Needless to say right was chosen as it has been a while since the weather has been as good for hoon. No timetable or anyone to worry about (wife at work, bairn at school).

Up the hill to the monument and then out to one of my favourite runs up the side of Loch Lochy to Invergarry and turn off onto the Kyle road and Ailean Donan for a coffee. The road up the hill took me into mist and damp road which gave the Zed a wiggle but I soon dropped back down and I could take some pictures (sorry only on my phone as usual, not up to some of you guys standards).

Unfortunately arrived at the castle and it was too early for the coffee shop to be open so again a quick pic (they have got most of the scaffolding down now ready for the Summer season but there is still a bit left) and set off continuing on the road to Kyle for a mile or so before turning off for Lochcarron and Achnasheen (there is a wee tunnel on this road which is fun). It also has after a great wee twisty bit and a nicely surfaced straightish section where 61mph may be achievable with a roundabout at the other end so you can do it again if you don't quite manage 61mph. Nothing here at all in the middle of nowhere with very little other cars and is the safest place I know to wind things up :D

Took a picture of the Zed at a garage for the famous thread and onwards to Garve, Contin and stop off at Black Isle to visit my Mum and Dad (fix her phone as usual and get a cup of tea with cake).

The quick way back from here is to Inverness and down the side of Loch Ness but the better way and with plenty of time on my hands I went to Connonbridge, Muir of Ord, Beauly and the Belladrum turnoff to go over the hill and come out at Drumnadrochit (this is a great wee bit of road with some crazy tightening turns and elevation changes, I have never managed to stop and take a photo on this road :D ) onto the Lochside road but then turn off at Glenmorriston which joins up to the Kyle road at the T junction and then back the same way I came.

A great drive was had with the weather being outstanding and the traffic light. Still early for tourists and probably helped by me setting off earlyish as well.

With this being one of my favourite routes and having plenty of time I took more pictures than normal as I have been guilty in the past of getting too into the drive and not taking any!! :(

250 miles all in and tomorrow will be a cleaning day :D

Reminds me of a game we used to play when we had our cars in college days. We'd play the left right game and see where we end up. You have to take every left, followed by every right. Obviously dead ends and impossible roads didn't count. Ended up finding some nice places. Mind you, we had to keep an eye on the petrol gauge!

Epic scenery, roads, and my dream car. Not jealous...
Wish I had roads like that near me. Hoping to do a highlands driving trip this summer.

Great right up. Brought back happy memories of last May's trip up to your wee village. Appresiate you taking time out for pictures. That's some thing often forget to do these days. As you say into the driving too much most of the time, to think about stopping until the fuel light comes on.

Fantastic scenery OP.

Reminds me of a great trip up the East Coast and down the West back in 2009 (sadly in the 123d I had at the time). Still some good driving though.

Here at home my choice is left - Camberley, or right - Bracknell.

Yes that is Urquart Castle. When you come out at Drum onto the Loch Ness road you have about 10 miles until to turn off at Glenmorriston and then back on at Invergarry.

Thanks for all the nice comments. I will have to take pictures more often :D
