    Oil leak - N52 auto

I’ve been trying to track down an oil leak from the back of the engine which has been spotting on the garage floor, after accumulating on the metal reinforcement plate. Picture is taken with reinforcement plate removed looking towards the rear. What you are looking at is the sump (top right)...

What have you done to your car today?

Today I sheltered under the car, it was drier to stay there than to come out

    Passenger door handle

You’ll have to pay postage on top from Sytner, but the price should be the same from any BMW dealer. Apologies if I have misread the post and it turns out to be the wrong part.

What have you done to your car today?

Finally got the car back together again after a hellish (everything out) audio loom transplant. Decided to brighten up the cabin while it was in pieces. This won’t be to everyone’s taste, but better than black, black, black. Car is Rubinschwarz if that helps explain the colour choice :D ).

    Gaptech RCH+ £60

Removed this little fellow from my car when replacing the audio loom, as I didn’t enjoy seeing scotchlocks all over my electrics. £60 posted UK, as per photo. Plenty of forum members have Gaptech modules, so instructions should be readily available. (Current Gaptech price is £89.99 + £5 P&P)

What have you done to your car today?

Started stripping out the 6-speaker wiring harness and replacing it with a 10-speaker harness. I almost decided not to do it due to the amount of dismantling involved, but bit the bullet today. Now there’s no going back. I also removed a gaptech module and a reversing camera system installed...

    Underpowered N52 2.5i - upgraded to 2.5Si

Just tested, definitely working. The default state (engine off) is both DISAs open. At idle, both DISAs are closed At c. 2850 rpm, DISA2 opens At c. 3800 rpm, DISA1 opens (i.e. both open) Hence, three stage intake. This is surprising, as it suggests the gains from DISA2 are in the mid range.

E85/6 Cruise control delivered from the States

I think that’s not correct. Only post-LCI cars required the retrofit cable. Pre-LCI cars (definitely the early ones) were plug and play. Either way, srhutch’s loom is much simpler, comes with instructions, and costs half as much. I will be doing mine this weekend.

    swapping front springs

A pair of heavy duty standard spring compressors from eBay work fine. Your real question should be how to use them safely. Because of the limited number of turns and non-uniform coil diameter, Z4 front springs are difficult. I use two compressors and a vice, whereas others have reported...

    Underpowered N52 2.5i - upgraded to 2.5Si

All back together now, fired up fine and running with no codes. Reassembly was significantly easier than disassembly, the main problems being a couple of hard to access screws but mostly those horrible pipe fittings that you have to squeeze and pull. 10 electrical connectors and 5 pipe...

    Underpowered N52 2.5i - upgraded to 2.5Si

The old manifold is off, but it’s a pig of a job. There are a lot of connectors to undo. The electrical ones are no problem, but the pipes are a horror. I broke the top crank case breather, but fortunately I have another one which came with the new manifold. Then I thought I had everything...

    Underpowered N52 2.5i - upgraded to 2.5Si

There are many warnings on this forum to avoid the facelift 2.5i as being underpowered, so not being a speed freak, I bought one. First impressions are that it is the smoothest and quietest Z4 that I have owned and, if I hadn’t been spoilt by previous M54 3.0i and N52 3.0Si variants, it is...
