3. "Hacking" the screen.
Seeing as the screen OS is embedded Linus based, there is a possibility that the screen could be "hacked" to make subtle changes - things like correct typos, change phrases or makes fonts more uniform. The embedded Linus is extremely fast, the system "cold boots" in...
2. The software
The screen is controlled by the "BC" button on the left-hand stalk - a quick press moved to the next option and a long press selects that option, a bit fiddly but you quickly get used to it.
There are 4 main options along the top:
Trip >> Fuel Information >> Info(r*)mation >>...
1. Fitting the screen
As said in my initial post, the screen will NOT fit in the enclosure without first removing some bits of plastic from the insides of the cowl covering the instrument pack. This is no different to the ID4Motion screen, in fact they supply the following photo telling you...
I thought I would start a new thread to document my progress in assessing this Chinese made Digital Cluster for our E89 cars. As I said in the previous thread (here) I have purchased a unit that arrived a week or so ago and I am testing it to see how it ticks and if it will work on our cars...
I can remove the instrument panel easy enough, just remove two screws and it’s out. But I need to also remove the black/grey plastic cowl that goes over and around the instrument cluster - but I can’t seem to budge it.
Anyone have any pointers please?
Many thanks.
Well, I have not done anything to the car yet, but this arrived in the post today ... can you guess what it is??
It's actually this, a folding auto dipping mirror!! I guess I can say it came well packed!!!
Other mirror on the way and switchpack with folding button already in my...
I had time this weekend to hook up the computer to the E89 to query the seats/ seat modules.
I think I have a good lead and software works - as I can connect and query various ECUs and code things up ... yet when I try and query the seat modules (either drivers or passengers, it doesnt matter)...
A few weeks ago I purchased a pair of electric, memory, heated MSport seats from a breaker which were in top condition. I used them as donors to place the leather off my MSport manual non-heated seats in Koral red leather onto the frame. Essentially, I skinned the leather off the black "donor"...
Here is passenger side power fitted.
Driver’s side power and K_CAN.
K_CAN cables identified at the junction box end:
Power from Fuse 46 via the junction box connector:
I am nearly done with this retrofit - so far I have managed to obtain a pair of pristine MSport heated electric (memory) seats in Black and have managed to swap "scalps" with my Koral Red seats, so I now have two red heated/ electric seats ready to go (I am working in a "how-to" for this...
I think this will be my first foray into watch ownership at this level … I’m 99% sure I’m going for this - does anyone have any insight into reliability, longevity etc please??
Thanks.
Hi all
A while back I retrofitted the Extended Lighting package to my E89, and I tried to document the process as much as possible. You could get away with a much less elaborate way of wiring it up but I wanted to be able to remove the wiring if I wanted to so went the extra mile so to speak...
My body shop guy (based on just photos at this stage) says it should be repairable and if so it should cost around £350 (bumper repair and respray) - I'll be taking it next week so he can have a closer look (and I can collect my ZTT which is having some final work on the clear coat done! 8) )
Car has been out back covered for 3 weeks to stave off the bits of tree and bird poop - and whilst I had an overseas trip. Came back, uncovered the car and found this … 🤬🤬🤬
Thanks neighbours! I have a security camera but it didn’t capture anything of note.
I’m guessing the split can be...
On the RHS I found a wooden splinter of about 8mm or so diameter neatly puncturing and embedded in the “deflector” part!
I may have to replace that one too!
PS: it’s this part:
I didn’t even know this was a thing - but I saw it was torn off and scraping the ground. Anyway, £12 and it’s fitted - I guess it will deflect lots of gravel and crap hitting the sill.
Hi All
The brake pads on my E89 were reaching end of life, and in fact I got the brake pad low warning indicator. I changed all pads and sensors Even though the service interval is set for 2000 miles in the future. I tried to reset using Carly and it won’t let me reset front or rear? I’ve not...
There is something most therapeutic in cleaning (an already really clean! 🤦) engine bay, then using Aerospace 303 to give it just the right finish and protection. Did this then covered it (the car) whilst I am overseas for the week. Looking forward to coming back!
I’m in Rochester NY this week and spotted this outside Costco … looks well kept. Later spotted the driver loading the shopping in the boot (trunk) … it didn’t look like he would be able to put the roof down. 🙄😊
