Hi once again 2nd post on this site get me ! finally got my 54 plate alpina roadster s lux on Saturday and started to do a bit of online reading into facts and figures around production .
Most sites give very similar details but when it comes to exactly how many roadster s lux's were made in 2004 and how many were made overall the figures vary from site to site . I'm lead to believe the cars chassis is from the states then there sent to buchloe to be worked on by the alpina guys but figures on the amounts they did are sketchy to say the least . One figure of 370 for the car keeps coming up but I can't believe they only produced that amount .
Someone on this site will surely put my mind at rest .

Hi “number 1 super guy” :D
I believe that it was a total of 370 made, 167 of those being right hand drive.
The Alpina register is also a great place for Info as is Perry Gunn who has already been mentioned.

Hi me brook

Ye as I mentioned the figure that came up a couple of times was 370 just seems s super low amount ! I know you have a figure 167 for right hand drive but mine is number 168 and yours 169 so 167 in right hand drive ? ?
Thanks again for the reply .

Sorry

Don't know why that didn't say merbrooK
Me and phones
No worries.

Regarding the numbering, I believe that the build numbers were allocated as the customer order was placed so that yours and mine might have been specified for a righthand drive country consecutively but 167 for example could have been ordered by someone in europe. It was just as the orders were placed rather than Alpina setting out to build x number of righthand drive cars and x number of lefthand drive cars.

Of course I maybe wrong on all of the above but that is my understanding. :driving:

Thanks again merbrooK
Ye that does make sense
Just like to know the numbers cause as usual people always ask " well how many of these cars did they make :?

:D

Hi, and welcome...

The Alpina factory records have always been (slightly) ambiguous but the accepted number of RS' built is 370 - all cars, LHD or RHD, were assigned sequential build numbers and your build number just means that your car was #168 out of the 370 built, just as mine is #320/370

If you've bought #168, you've got what was, and hopefully still is, a lovely car - it was owned by Ade Flint and he fettled it into beautiful condition before selling it about 6 years ago - sale thread is at https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=48989

Hi and thanks perrygunn
Yes the car is no.168 and it is still in beautiful condition .
Gonna be owning this for many years .
Had a spell with Italian alfa romeo sz es30 for just over 8 years and have always loved the look of the alpinas so when this came into my view it was a no brained .

You won't notice it during an inspection, but oil consumption in the 3.4S engine is normal. You need to keep an eye on the oil levels because you won't get a warning light on the dash - the E85 oil level sensor isn't fitted as it's incompatible with the 3.4S engine.

Officially, Alpina only recommend 0w30 and TWS (for higher mileage engines) but, in practice, any fully synth that meets BMW LL04 spec will be fine.

Alpina quote 1L/1000 miles as normal oil consumption but it varies quite a bit from car to car - part of the charm of handbuilt engines - during Ade's ownership #168 was drinking around 1L/500miles on 0w30, Ade experimented with slightly thicker oils to control oil consumption and I think he settled on castrol 5w40 as being a good compromise.
