Audi TT quattro 225bhp

Anyone on here have one before the Z? And how do they compare, like for bits going wrong etc etc? And the remap is supposed to get 280bhp, but is that realistic or not?

May have to get a car with 4 seats, but want something as economical and as quick as the Z, but not anything boring. Will be putting a baby seat in it too :D Been looking at M3's and M5's, but insurance and me moving house may be an issue, so rather get something for about 8k ish really.

Any thoughts welcome

I have posted numerous times about the one i had, but here we go just for you.

I had a 225TTC over 5 years ago, only 40k on the clock with full Audi service history. My problems were as follows:-

Bearing in mind this list is from ONLY 8 months of ownership !
2 New MAF sensors
1 New dumpvalve
1 New battery
1 New alarm sounder
The CD changer in the bose system used to stick
Dashpod issue - incorrect fuel gauge reading - Audi wanted 750 quid (before this appeared on BBC watchdog)
1 New turbo (1500 quid!)
Finally needed a new engine due to the broken turbo spitting fragments of metal into it !

A massive mistake to say the least, even an Audi technician admitted to me that they used to fix TT's more than any other car. Total bag of SHI*.

The Audi dealership had it more than me so legally i should have them named on the V5! :tumbleweed:

i had a 225 had it remapped by skn ( company that remaps german police cars ) few other mods diff turbo solenoid valve, uprated haldex, kn stage 3 suspension, all turbo hoses upgraded interior swapped out to tt sport style brembo gt brakes i swapped it for a 3.0si coupe and was dissapointed in its performance against the tt so upgraded to a M as far as mpg goes depends on how you drive it but fairly similiar really as far as 4 seats on a tt the rear is a joke theres even a waring sticker on the door pillar about height restrictions /seating in the rear be sure to ask about the dashpod and make sure if you drive it that the temp NEVER goes above 90 indicated , also make sure cambelts have been done pref every 40k or every 5 yrs ask if water pump has been upgraded to a metal impeller last never ever use the tt shop !my brother has a tt modded to a higher spec than mine was and audi had it for 5 months trying to resolve a temp issue they swapped turbo head gasket intercoollers radiator and senders a relay in the rear light (controls turbo believe it or not ! ) he says he will never buy another audi now even though he got it back free of charge and on that note dont use wayside audi i mean any of their franchises as his car was towed/taken to 3 for their master     techs to look at saying all that the only thing that went on mine was the dashpod audi was charging 1300 for the swap then started for free if you had a full audi service history , hope i was some help :D

yer brilliant. if i hadn't pored so much cash down the drain all those years ago i would probably being able to afford a Z4M a long time ago.

Sold mine yesterday mate.

They're not the most reliable, but they aren't that bad either. The coupe I had was alot more practical that the Z4Mr I have now. Alot better in winter conditions and mpg was slightly better.

The remap gives it loads of midrange grunt, 280bhp is really only possible with fmic and full turbo back exhaust like I had. With that though it felt alot faster than the 3.0l Z4.

Standard remap with uprated DV will give you around 260bhp and there are lots of recommended garages.

I did change quite a few parts on mine but I still don't think it was excessive for a car nearly 10 years old on 80k. It's no toyota but I did plenty of miles at plenty of pace with issue. Italy and back in 5 days to do the Stelvio being my favourite.

I loved mine and had it for nearly 4 years and 40k miles. There's a really good community and forum which is useful. Only had the bmw a week so can't compare repair bills yet, but considering the Z4M cdchanger has packed up after one week and I've bought a roll of velcro to fix numerous rattles, I wouldn't be throwing too many stones regarding the TT's build quality. (Glass houses and all that  )

Why not get a V6 if you like the 6pot noise and NA? Looks better as well.

Was thinking about the v6, but I like the lighter 1.8 and to me it's more tunable IMO, and better mpg I would have thought.

What's the difference visually then? Must admit have not noticed anything, but not looked at them too much :.)

Different bumper which visually makes a big difference, gets the later 3 bar grill and 3 bar lower grill. Black add on spoiler. These are the usual bits the 1.8 crew add to their cars. 1.8 is vastly more tuneable bang for buck. mpg is a bit better on the 1.8, but V6 is still not that bad. Nothing like an m3 for example.

A highly tuned 1.8 can be crap on short journeys though. I was getting anything from 18-23mpg, yet on a run I would get 30s.

Being used to the z4's note, maybe the V6 is the way to go, as the other thing that bothered me was the lack of 'noise' from the 1.8, never made it feel sporty. However if i am right the V6's nearly always came with the DSG box? which I have heard some real horror stories about. i am sure i have seen a v6 manual for sale but i think they are quite rare?

Mine was actually quite reliable, and had done in excess of 100k by the time I got rid of it. Definately would not consider it a 4 seater though, not even in the context of small kids.

Must admit however, I much prefer the Z

I did until i saw snow!

Na i love my Z4, but need and extra seat for the missus

Agree with navid.v, and will stress again. Not a four seater! The back seats should really be described as a shelf cos there is literally no leg room

I've only got to put a baby seat either in the front or back, so don't need leg room. But have seen one before, and remember what the rear so called seats are like ha!

My friend had a 225 coup- it was a good car, not as exciting as the z but far more practical- and we did take 4 adults out in it, albeit not far! Should be fine for te occasional baby seat run!
He sold it as it started to run big bills, last stew was an ask of 5k to get it ready to pass MOT! Another friend hasn't seen his in two months as Audi still havnt fixed it!!!!! Buy a good late model and it shud be ok for a couple of years!

 another positive comment then :D . They dont sound the best do they :P I know my mate had two that both had the dash problem, but if i did get a 3.2 then it would be a 2004 model.

What else though? 4 seats and decent power for reasonable money, that does not look complete poo

Just spotted this thread. I had the 225 coupe for five years from under 30K to over 90K miles. I can honestly say that never have I owned a more unreliable car, and that is including the £300 bangers that I owned as a student. The car was an enormous hole into which continually I poured money - I'm just glad I had a warranty to help shoulder the cost
More than that, in standard form it's just a big disappointment. It will go like stink in a straight line, and has sufficient torque to pull hard on hills, but the handling is soft and the brakes frighteningly bad. That the ESP cannot be fully disengaged even further separates you from the already vague experience of driving it. If you step into one from a Z4 you will regret your purchase for so many reasons. Please don't be fooled by the pretty exterior and the incredible interior (although it is a fabulous place to sit whilst awaiting the RAC patrole).
The only advantage is that you can get three adults in the car - just as long as the other two are girls :D

im really happy with my new QS 240, it looks the business, goes well with 240bhp and with the bubble bit in black it looks acheingly beautiful, so so so so so pleased with mine, its a great daily driver to my weekend use only Z4m, mines got coilovers, shortshift, some nice alloy bling, uprated ARBs, polybushed and its awesome, looks and feels new with only 18k miles, i love mine!! Fabulous in the snow too :-) the interior is one of the VERY best imo.

i managed to get the dealer to replace the clutch and dual mass fly also only costing 215quid a year road tax im feeling rather happy with it right now, only time will tell if its reliable or not, if it doesnt work out, ill move on!! simples!
