Best code reader for the N52?

i downloaded a bluetooth odb2 plug in from ebay for a fiver and downloaded torque app and i can read and clear codes in addition to get real time info on screen record acceleration times, bhp ect ect i think its the best cost effective option, there are better cables/softwarre that will give alot more control.

I was thinking more of a dedicated tool than a laptop/pc based solution.

Dont need a laptop..you can run the software from your phone/tablet...if you want a top dollar tool someone will be along shortly with some recommendations

Konnwei KW808 seems OK for £20 ....

Anyone tried these?

Be aware that if you go with Carly you will need a Carly specific OBD2 reader. With the latest software the generic OBD2 widget will no longer work .

seems to get decent reviews on Amazon

Slightly OT here bit does anyone know if I need the K-line or DCAN cable for coding an 2008 E86? The bcables site is a bit ambiguous with nothing specifically for the Zed

I bought the silver cable which works on an '07 E85. The INPA software seems to be in German, though..

The silver cable does both kline and dcan by the look of it. I've just bought a second-hand kline cable from a forum member and have my fingers crossed :)

If anyone was curious, my 08 E86 uses the K-line protocol. I bought a second hand cable and it works a treat - its the blue cable (option 1) on the bcables.com site.

The software they supply also seems to be a little easier to get working. Only taken me half a day to get SSS progman working, which seems good compared to most stories Ive read!

A C110 Scanner  Hands down the best imo. No faffing around with laptops and leads and I can't think of another scanner under £40 that does ABS and Airbag.

I got this scanner, came in very handy to establish which brake pressure sensor was faulty, carry it in the car 24/7 now.

I have carly with a cable and it works fine

My Bcables silver cable (kline & dcan) one wouldn't work with Carly so had to buy the proper Carly one.

If you're literally only looking for code scanning then I have used this on my A4 and it works very well. There are more advanced systems available for the money though. Note: Functionality would probably be limited to code reading/clearing only on the Z4.

Another with a C110. A little slow but a very useful scanner.
