BMW Performance brake retrofit

So firstly a big thank you to B21 for selling me the complete kit.

Cleaned and prepped everything before which included pre soaking the hard to soft brake pipe connections with PB Blaster. This stuff is great at cracking seized nuts.

A top tip for removing the pad retaining bolts is to heat the bolt to 200 degrees. This will soften the loctite as they have a habit of shearing off. The are steel in an aluminium caliper. I did this to ensure when I next change the pins they come out. I then cleaned them up and new loctite (red) reapplied.

Once all fitted coded with Bimmergeek Protool. Add SPBR to vehicle order. This will prompt you to add the coding to two modules. Job done.

Brakes are superb 👌

They look awesome compared to the standatd set up.
Must inspire confidence knowing you have massive stopping power for those emergency situations.

Kit required for the change

Callipers
Pads
Discs
Splash guards

Wear denser and brake hose you can use your current.

They do look good, thought they looked a little familiar. Be careful you don't wake up to discover that the whole car has turned YELLOW! :o

ハプニングのブレーキはとても信頼あります、私はバランスなのか飛石防止なのか角のブロックを取って色を塗替えました

The brakes of the happening are very reliable, I took the block of the corners, whether it was balance or anti-stepping stones, and repainted them

I did wonder what it was for. I left it as it obviously is there for a reason. Maybe heat soak?

They are weights to shift the resonance frequency down to help avoid brake squeal …

For which BMW model are they originally for ?

E82/E87/E90
How do they compare with the stock brakes that come with the 35is ?

About the same. No particular improvement. Meh.

For a 35is not an obvious significant improvement on paper…however..a key determinant is ‘compliance’..that’s the technical term for ‘give’ in the brake systems…single piston sliding calipers inherently have a high degree of flex or compliance …a monobloc opposed piston design will have much less flex..therefore ..even if there were no other changes the ‘feel’ of the brake pedal will be more positive and there will be better feedback and the ability of the driver to modulate the brakes will be improved..

Moreover the increase in pad area will help modulate braking as the bigger pad won’t change fractionally as much as a smaller pad..

On the 35is I used them they were markedly more progressive than the stock set up..

For a 23i it’s a big change in pad area, swept area so increased benefits will apply there..

Plus the stock calipers just look pathetic…

I reckon I'm going to have to continue to use my superior braking skills . :P

Did you have to code the performance caliper on your 35is ? Or was it plug and play ?

You add ‘SPBR’ to the vehicle order…it was an option within the E89 build options
