Buying an alpina

Hi am new here.

Am thinking of buying an alpina for fun and an investment. Any advice and things to look out for much appreciated as I only own a 2.0 zed so looking to upgrade. But it’s been a brilliant car.

Questions:

1. Is having a lux package important for value?

2. The car at leisure Essex has been up for sale for ages. What is wrong with it? On the alpina register forum I am guessing that it is due to missing service history as first listed service was at 29k. I think it’s probably overpriced too.

Any advice is very very welcome.
 
Welcome to the forum Kate. Alan (Number5) sold his a little while back after finding a lower mileage example to cherish.

Not sure I would ever consider any Z4 an investment though. But as you say, it's a step up and one that you will no doubt enjoy driving regardless of future value.

Long term investment maybe, but doubt you'd loose any money buying the right one. I bought my ///M back in Oct 2011 so nearly ten years ago for £15.5k and 35k on clock. It's still worth that now with 53k on the clock.

I think I have had mine 10 years this week. :thumbsup: Only had 12k on a 2008 plate, when I bought it though and paid £21k ish, if memory serves me. MrsG would know the exact date and price. Now coming up on 80k miles, so I guess I drive mine a little more often that you do yours. When I checked it's a 2006 build car any way, so you did well there. :thumbsup:

The Lux pack will give you the rather dated Sat nav screen, but it will also give you Xenons, which are worth having as Z4 halogens are notoriously poor at night.

With regard to buying a Roadster S, I'd just say have a good look at the service history, and above all else ask to view a car on cold start up (ideally the first start up of the day) it should sound like a bag of spanners for about 90 seconds and then should settle to a smooth quiet purr, without any accelerator action at all. Ask about the oil usage. When new they would burn approx 1L of oil every 1500 miles, but higher mileage cars can reduce down as low as 700 miles per litre which may be a cause for concern.

The Head Gasket is copper on the Alpina's and this can set you back c£400 alone, so if its been already changed (usually around 80K miles) thats a bonus. Other than that, the usual things apply. However, 90% of the Roadster S is standard Z4 parts therefore reasonably cheap to swap/replace, but anything Alpina specific like seats, badges, exhaust etc are hard to find and can be expensive.
