Can you adjust your windscreen?

I have an E86 and the rubber around my windscreen has perished. I bought a new bmw rubber and tried to fit it. I can't fit it. The gap at one side is way smaller than all the rest. So it must have moved. I just can't push it in.

The only thing I could do it cut the rubber and glue the rest down, which I don't really want to do and would be a complete bodge job. Is it possible to move down/adjust the windscreen somehow or will it be fixed solid? So in other words its a complete windscreen out and in job?

And expensive!

Have you tried to lube the seal to see if that gets it in place? Or is it miles out?
Also a bit of heat on the rubber. But be careful not to crack the screen.
 
I recall another thread saying it wasn’t easy (compared to the e85) to change the surround

May be worth a search
 
Did you dunk the thing into some warm water before you tried to fit it? I did that and it made it way easier. Granted it was on an E85 and not the 86.
 
I recall a thread on another forum from someone who ordered a coupe windscreen seal, but received a seal for a roadster - it did not fit. Any possibility you might have a similar issue?

I replaced the trim on my E86. Less than an hour to remove the old one, clean the junk, fit it (incorrectly) remove it and fit it properly.
It's a simple job...I've no idea where the "it's difficult on an E86" thing started
 
They're was a good few mm difference in both sides. So I cut out the middle bit with a scalpel. Pushed it in and it looks OK. To be honest if you weren't looking for it you wouldn't see it. So happy with that for the time being.
