CSL Wheels

Is it still necessary to have a CSL chassis number to buy OE wheels from a dealer?

I'm after some CSL's, OE is preferable, but don't want to take the risk with 2nd hand, so in for a penny and all that.

That being the case, any friendly dealers best to try first?

Nope, most dealers will sell you a set without....and it's very easy to find a CSL VIN number if you really need one (I might have my old one somewhere).

Can I ask you why you prefer OEM and you don't go with a CSL Style set?
Maybe because replicas are considerably heavier, the offsets are different and the paint finish is generally rubbish. Personally going with the OE wheels gives the added bonus that you don't have to worry they might crack, and that also you don't have replica (fake) wheels on your own car, both subjective points though perhaps.

As to the OP, no you don't need a chassis number these days. Cotswold BMW or any of the other friendly dealers should give you a decent price, last I heard they were about £1650 for the set.

Nice wheels :)

Tom I am asking because the last 10 days I am searching myself too for some CSL's . The difference for the OEM to CSL style is more or less around 1500 euros. Also CSL OEM doesn't come with different colours. You mention some important issues here for replicas:
1) Heavy. I believe this doesn't make a huge difference.
2) The offsets are different. From other members that have bought from http://www.cmwheels.com/ithat they fit like a glove like the OEM.
3) Paint in Silver the feedback I have from other members told me that is not so good like the OEM. I do not care for the colour because I will order the black ones.
4) Crack. Here is the most serious consideration I have too. Can a wheel crack while driving at a high speed? Because 1500 in my pocket is good but a cracked wheel at high speed is something disastrous.
5) Fake. I don't care about that since I will never say it is OEM.

Costwold price 1650 for all of them?

I got mine from Taunton BMW without a Chassis number and got 10% discount so they cost £1740 iirc a couple of years ago

I got my reps from BM Autosport.
While I'm sure there are even better ones elsewhere I'm happy.

The paintwork may be a little thin and chip-sensetive, but they're actually lighter than OEM, if anything.
Mine are 12.1kg front and 12.4kg rear. With tires the weightloss from the OEM 18" wheels is amazing, and detectable from behind the wheel too.

ET/offset was bang on OEM, just perfect for Z4M.

Have you got a link to the ones you bought???

The ones I find on that site are all slightly different offset

You tend to cry a little less when you touch a kerb with CSL-styles rather than real CSLs!

I too bought mine from http://www.cmwheels.com/, Chris is a helpful guy and my wheels were great for the money

Lynchy, what tire size do you have on them? Do you have any complaints about crack or anything else?

On their website it mentions different sizes of ET on different CSL type of wheels.
Does anybody know what it is and what is the correct size for our cars?

The most common offset for the reps are 38 front, 27 rear. OEM CSL's are 44 front, 27 rear

Steve is right I haven't fitted them yet. I had a long conversation with Chris at CMWheels and before buying he assured me they were exactly the same dish and offsets (which I still don't understand ) as genuine CSLs . The only difference is that the fronts may sit out about 5mm more than genuine which is fine. As soon as I get them on i will post some pics .

The one thing I will say FD3S is if you are unsure give Chris a call as he will be able to help you with sizes etc
