Dealing with very hard water?

Despite spending much time and money on my Zed I’ve not given the paintwork any love …

As a preemptive I decided to give it a quick polish prior to the NC500 trip next week.

Noticed areas when running my fingers on the paint on the bonnet especially where it’s rough to the touch.

Previous Zed had lots of airborne pollution which I removed with a clay bar.

This looks like areas where I hosed the car and just let it dry with pools of water on the bonnet.

Our showers calcify very quickly due to the very hard water from our bore hole.

So the question is what’s the best way to remove this staining?

I assume Cilit Bang is not the optimum strategy?

Clay bar?

I guess I should then give it a bit of a treatment with my DA and some compounds..followed by wax and not allowing water to stay but micro fibre it dry…. :tumbleweed:

I'd guess the best start i the clay bar, then all the subsequent reapplications of polish, wax etc.

I get a similar issue here and, though the neighbours think I'm mad, I often nip out and wash the car when its raining (lightly), then dry it off when the rain stops, but before it dries.

Clay bar is probably best bet as said and always dry car off with a nice plush microfibre towel at least 1200 GSM . Edgeless if possible as the stitched edges on some can put small micro scratches in your paint . Plenty on Amazon and eBay etc

I use a pet dryer with a 5m Henry hoover extension hose

A company called Raceglaze makes water filters of varying sizes which connect to you hosepipe and the rinse the car. The filters are filled with resin which you replace every two years.
When youhave done the usual washing etc give a final rinse with water passing through the filter. There is no need to wipe dry. Just leave to air dry and the car will be spot free. Even windows dry clear. Not cheap but works really well.
I have just received my replacement refill and will doing it this week.
All the info is on their website.
Hope this helps.

This is the best product to get rid of existing spots:

https://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-cleaning/all-car-cleaning/chemical-guys-heavy-duty-water-spot-remover-16oz-719326.html

I use two water filters in series, as what IRD above mentions, and use that for the final rinse and let the car dry by itself. Dries without any spots.

Interesting...are you using the 7 litre version and how long before replacing the granules?

I bought the bigger 14litre version and mounted it on an old sack trolley so it stays upright and is easy to move. The granules have lasted just over 2 years. I have only recently replaced them. Most weeks I have used it to rinse two cars after washing them. Not cheap but works really well. I am glad I bought it.
