Beautiful day here yesterday so gave the Z a good clean. Time to put it away, started normally, and I always drive round the block rather than just staraight in the garage, but when I got back I immediately heard a new noise......

Lifted the bonnet for a listen and it seems to be coming from around the alternator/timing belt area and sounds like one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/Newtons-Cradle-Balance-Balls-5-1-2-Newtons-Cradle_W0QQitemZ370168711013QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item370168711013&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7c66%3A2%7c65%3A12%7c39%3A1%7c240%3A1318%7c301%3A0%7c293%3A1%7c294%3A50 (I didn't know you could still get them...) which is kind of a 'clack, clack...' if you've never heard one.

Maybe quietened a little as the car warmed, but I've not noticed it before.

Any ideas please?

I think you may have the same problem as me, a sticky hydraulic tappet/lifter, mines done it a few times, and did on Friday after picking up from thed dealer, goes when engine is warm, I am getting the dealer to look at though as it's not good.

Oh dear, was hping it was an ancilliary, or belt tensioner, say. When are you getting yours looked at?

E Sussex, do you use Coopers TW? I'm in Staplehurst, W Kent.

oh no, my car is making a noise, sounds like tappets, its done less than 5k miles

help help help

srhutch, thanks for that link, sounds exactly what mine is doing, i will kick arse with the dealer first thing monday, i will be well prepared

probably not, after driving round the block and a couple of stop starts it started to run as normal

Can you record some video, if so make sure you get a shot of the number plate, hopefully that will help.

ok, good advise, just going out in it now, will see how it behaves, will let you know

Williams Bolton, I emailed the dealer on Monday, as yet no reply :headbang:

Just emailed them again, if i get no reply i will have to email either another dealership or BMW direct
