Get the wheels off?

Big piece of wood against the inside of the wheel and use a sledge hammer to shift it.

Careful to catch it when it goes though.

I generally do a bit at a time until I know it will be almost lose.

Hit it at 3 and 9 o'clock until it loosens.

Not ideal on front wheels as the hubs will try and turn.

Loosen all bolts a couple of turns from being hand tight then move the car a short distance, not just in a straight line, this should do the trick.

and... when replacing them use a smear of copper grease to ensure that they'll always come off easily in the future

All very good answers. I thought mine were 'welded' on. I had to loosen the bolts to hand tight, get it moving and then slam on the brakes (kacked my pants when it eventually 'cracked')

It's quite some bang when it eventually breaks free

Does this happens?

Try to remove safely so, that it do not break.

I think the size would be small and fitted tightly due which this happened.

Would on hit the wheel on a properly supported car though, certainly not on a BMW jack and preferably not on a normal jack either. Last thing you want it the jack slipping and going through your floor/sill!
