I was wondering if anyone has any experience replacing the door weatherstrip ie the little rubber wiper that rubs against the window as it goes up and down.

The reason is my Z4 has been taking on a lot of water in the drivers footwell area. I got my wife to spray water on the drivers door while it was open and I looked at where it was going. It was clearly coming out behind the door trim panel indicating the weather seal between the door and the trim is leaking, a new weather barrier has been ordered. However, I got my wife to do the same check on the passengers door, which was fine. But my wife then made an interesting observation. She noticed when she sprayed the passengers door all the water ran down the glass, hit the rubber strip and was deflected down the outside of the door. On the drivers side she noticed the water was flowing behind the strip and into the doors rather than down the outside. So I am now thinking it might make sense to replace the inner door water shield and also replace the rubber weatherstrip at the ame time.

Does anyone have any experieince of doing this?

I think you're looking at the wrong solution. The weather strip is there to try prevent water getting in, but it will still get in.

My first port of call would be to take the door-card off the car. There is a door membrane that sometimes is damaged, which from what I've read/seen and experienced is probably the culprit to your water ingress.

As I said, I have already ordered the weather shield 51487016656 which arrives Monday. But there is a clear gap between the weather strip and the window glass on the drivers side (the passengers side is touching), so it is likely doing very little to stop water getting in to the door. My way of thinking is it makes sense to reduce the amount of water getting into the door as well as replace the waterproof barrier.
