I guess that's Wales off my road trip list for 2025....

A quarter of motorists committing 20mph speed offences have been caught on just two roads in Wales, figures reveal.

Enforcement along the A4102 Swansea Road at Gellideg, Merthyr Tydfil - which links the A465 Heads of the Valleys road and the A470 - has caught more than 8,000 drivers in 10 months.

Freedom of information requests from BBC Wales show not far behind are nearly 7,200 motorists caught exceeding the 20mph limit on the A5104 at Pontybodkin near Penyffordd in Flintshire.

Disappointing as there are some great driving roads in mid to north wales.

Lucky those Cameras are in South Wales then.

It is a pain though. I was amazed not to get any tickets after my last scotland trip. There was one 20mph zone than I was convinced I had driven through at 30mph. I actually stopped at the speed camera, when I realized it was a 20mph zone I was leaving, having not seen the earlier signs, that I presume were there. :?

I live three miles from the Welsh border. I have to go into Wales to shop at Tesco but other then that I now go for drives in Herefordshire or certain roads in Wales that haven’t got stupid limits. So they no longer get my cafe and petrol money. Weirdly it seems that motorists now go 17 in a 20 when all used to do 35 in a 30! The other thing Oxfordshire has regular 20 limits and peds don’t know how to handle it- the cars are so slow you can be have a three course meal in the middle of the road before they get to you. I make a habit of going through the smiley face at 35 just to get the scowl.

Generally very few of the 20mphs on Scotland are enforced with speed cameras ..static or mobile..give or take the odd school where plonkers insist on setting land speed records..lots of warnng signs of various types instead..folks generally back off so its had the desired effect without being too intrusive..plus after a while they raised the limits back up on the outskirts of villages /towns..primary issue is just the rate of number of changes on any one stretch of the roads..

Having said that they are muting putting a blanket 50 mph max on single carriage way roads! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

If I recall the 20mph was on the A84 as it wandered through a village. I Know some of the 50mph ones only too well from my trips up to Aviemore. Don't find them a problem, as long as the cars overtake the trucks it seems to work ok. I gather they are set 50 for trucks and 60 for cars on most stretches. You may know more.

Read that report, everyone is now up in arms that live close to that road, all saying why is this road 20mph, where were they when the law came out.

I bet they wont be voting labour again.

I saw that one person was caught at over 70mph and thats the issue everyone penalised for the odd idiot.

In the main I dont see people abiding by them. However those that do seem to be going below 20 even in 30 zones :headbang:

The blind leading the blind.

You try keeping to these 20 limits on a motorbike. Some of them seem pointless (apart from those caught speeding  ) and go on for miles and in some cases if you miss the start you are stuffed as there are not repeater signs so you are lost to whether it is 20 or 30. In the 4 I have a heads up display that normally picks up the limit but on a bike you don't have that.
Twenty is Plenty around schools and other residential areas but on main roads where there are no houses or turnings it's crazy.

The place on the list in North Wales is a permanent speed camera plus has 50 mph average cameras for miles.Nealy every one is ignoring the 20 limit and are also driving above the speed limit in the 30 zones since the Welsh taliban introduced the 20 limits.

I think these speed limits are a very cynical money raising exercise. People are probably more likely to have a prang anyway if they are constantly looking at their speedo.

A few bits of mud strategically placed on the reg plate when in Wales must be an option.

I'm not so sure £wonga is the motivator here RMB. I think it's just an extension of woke mindset infiltrating the system further still.

Read this with interest as a few 20mph roads are creeping in in the south east, notably Brighton but not exclusively.
I found it nigh on impossible to stick at 20mph changing between 2nd and 3rd gear in my day car either screaming in a low gear or juddering in a higher gear. My one thought was it must result in a substantial increase in pollution levels and reduced mpg levels. Wonder if any research has been carried out.

They claimed it had in Wales and initially it was all about the environment but when people started to question it, they started saying it was all about road safety.

No issue with 20mph around schools and critical infrastructure but not on all the roads it is currently set on.
