Looking for a heavy knob

UPDATE: now sorted, ZHP knob on the way to me courtesy of Wassup!

Hi guys,

I've been pondering getting a weighted gear knob for a while, and the decision to actually go and do it was made for me when the original knob came off in my hand during some spirited driving.

So, does anyone on here have a hefty knob for me?

Ideally I'd like something vaguely OEM so an Msport /ZHP or whatever it's usually called would be good, as long as it's got some weight to it

Also like the look of Storm Motorwerks V1 in titanium with shift lines.

Thanks in advance for looking!

Don't buy a cheap one because it won't be weighted, which is the whole point!

BMW Part Number for the ZHP is B25.11.17.896886 for the 6 speed, same number but with 031 instead of 886 as the last 3 digits. They're a massive improvement compared to what Z4s came with.

Stormawerks ones look smart, but by all accounts feel very cold this time of year and get very hot if we have any summer!

Those F10 ones are over £150 and you need to modify the gaiter and find a power source to illuminate it unless your Z4 is an M.

Great info, thanks! Was definitely considering the storm one and hoping someone might be offloading one for less than a new one. My E86 is most definitely not an M so that pretty much rules that out as I want something I can just swap in

A used one will probably turn up on here if you're patient as people often sell them after they've sold their car. I sold a ZHP on here after taking it off my previous Z4 because my next one already had one!

When I finally sort out the gaiter and fit my F10 illuminated one I'll have a standard one for sale.

I have one of these https://www.zedonist.com/product/stainlesssteelgearknob/10?cp=true&sa=true&sbp=false&q=false since Christmas. It weighs a fair old chunk too!

It does make the gear change nice and smooth but it is also very cold in our lovely British winter and about 30 mins to warm up, but I only us the Zed about once a week or when the roads are dry, again not very often at the mo.

I saw these, and the price is very reasonable too. I can't get past the stainless look however - I know that's very picky

Yes I've seen some old listings so just hoping something comes up before I end up ordering a new one

Re the ZHP - I've seen conflicting info on whether they are actually weighted or not. The stock Z4 one weighs very little, but does the ZHP actually have tangible weight?

If you buy a genuine one it is definitely weighted. Those that say otherwise probably bought the cheap ones from places like aliexpress, etc.

Not quite the same comparison, but I weighed the standard M illuminated one and it was 98g. The F10 weighted one was 159g. If anything the difference for the non-M ones might be more because the standard Z4 offering is very light.

Totally agree, the ZHP felt so much better than stock. Even though it isn't *that* heavy.

Ok great thank you so much! I do find it odd the standard knob is so light considering the gearbox is so notchy

Very encouraging, thanks!

Depending on the mileage it might be worth getting the gearbox fluid changed (BMW claim they are Sealed For Life but I think they mean Sealed for Warranty Period), and removing the Clutch Delay Valve might make a difference too.

CDV was out 2 weeks after I bought the car and that definitely helped. Got some new gearbox oil coming in the post as we speak - really curious to see what that's like as my coupe has 161k on the clock and I don't see any record of gearbox oil change in the history

The Zedonist one is 500grams and you can change gear with your finger tips.

I have a couple of weighted 6 speed gearknobs, an illuminated F10 M5 and a non illuminated ZHP. Drop me a pm
